Useful Khuhi: saving analog cameras

    For someone, it turns out to be news that in the era of neural networks, machine vision, deep learning algorithms, sensor sensors and network surveillance cameras, people use analog equipment. But keep in mind that thousands of old analog cameras exist and are successfully operating in the world. Many devices have an analog output (for example, video on-door speakerphones) - all this equipment lives happily and is not going to die in the near future.

    Is this good or bad? The answer lies somewhere in the middle, but in the meantime, we are able to turn any analog video surveillance system into something more modern. Ivideon has begun shipping the Hikvision DS-7204HUHI-F1 / N Hybrid DVR, which for brevity we will call the name "Khukhi", consonant for the Russian ear. With it, you can simultaneously connect analog and IP cameras to our cloud service.

    Further about the DVR itself and more globally - about the entire analog world.

    Where you need a hybrid DVR

    So, at some sites analog cameras are still installed. Do I need motivation to switch to IP cameras, even taking into account all the meager capabilities of legacy solutions? At first glance, the answer is obvious: the resolution 704x576 typical of analog cameras looks sad by modern standards. Not to mention the numerous possible interference.

    There are reasons for leaving everything unchanged for a business:

    • picture quality is lower, but video also needs less disk space, which matters in local solutions;
    • the cost of cameras is lower than digital (for those who already have them, this is not the most relevant criterion);
    • if IP cameras do not have built-in support for the cloud service, then they may need a computer to work - the solution for analog cameras is much more compact;
    • installing new cameras is a big expense for the company;
    • it is necessary not only to change cameras, but also to lay cables (ethernet / optics), install routers and switches - take money from somewhere and invest in the project.

    At one enterprise, dozens of analog cameras can be installed, several DVRs connected to computers on the local network (for storing archives), hundreds of meters of cables are laid. Can you imagine how much money and effort is needed to “modernize” such a system?

    However, not everything is hopeless. Any iron can be used as long as it works, if you can apply it in conjunction with the current software.

    What to do with analog cameras

    The Hikvision DS-7204HUHI-F1 / N Hybrid DVR with Ivideon firmware allows you to simultaneously connect analog and IP cameras to the service.

    You can connect 4 analog cameras and 2 IP cameras or all 6 IP cameras (up to 4 megapixels) when disconnecting the analog channels. Such a number of cameras can be considered optimal for an oversized recorder. Any combination of standard and high definition analog cameras within 4 channels is possible.

    For analog cameras at the software level, motion detection is built into the recorder. You can connect a monitor to the recorder and watch the video locally.

    Data can be stored both standardly in the cloud, and on the DVR itself (if there is a threat of network breakdown), supporting hard drives up to 6 TB in size. You can combine both methods: the DVR and / or hard drive itself can be stolen, but if you use the cloud as a backup storage, the data will remain in the cloud and will be available regardless of the situation at the facility.

    This is Hikvision with all the usual settings, but to add it to your Ivideon personal account, a standard procedure with writing down the MAC address is enough. All channels appear immediately, both TVI / AHD cameras, and any supported IP cameras tied to the recorder itself.

    Features and Users

    First of all, this registrar solves the problem of connecting traditional analog and multi-format cameras to the cloud, and at the same time allows you to keep your previous investments in the system, as well as save when creating a new system, due to the same analog cameras. The installation cost will be minimal, because you do not have to change the original cable at the facility.

    The second important point: hybrid archive storage. There are times when you need to watch some of the cameras locally, and some of them put in the cloud. And the option with a DVR, with a bunch of interfaces and with a hard drive, in this case is very convenient.

    These two possibilities, together with others, can significantly expand the number of options for building systems with a connection to the cloud.

    The solution from Khukha is a good option for those clients who have not 2-3, but 4-6 cameras on one object. You can set up a hybrid storage method by duplicating data from mission-critical cameras in the cloud. And at the same time use all the features of Ivideon: access via desktop and mobile applications to live video and archive (both in the cloud and on-premises), active notification of events, embedding videos on the site, “sharing” cameras for an unlimited number of users.

    How much does the internet need for all this business? If you use the calculator for calculating the video archive, a 4 megapixel camera generates about 4 Mbit / s, and here it is already 4x4 = 16 Mbit / s. However, the numbers depend on the settings: where and how to write the video, in what resolution, with what frame rate and what bitrate.

    The registrar is installed very simply: literally after opening the box you need to remove the lid, install a hard drive, connect power and press power. After that, it remains only to choose a tariff. All settings take literally 5 minutes and you can watch DVR channels through Ivideon.
