Import substitution and GLONASS: the timing of the transition to domestic electronics

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin announced the timing of the transition of the Russian GLONASS navigation system to domestic electronics. Rogozin said this information during his speech at the international congress on the ERA-GLONASS system, RIA Novosti writes. According to the official, the full import substitution will take about two years.
“We found solutions in order to fully switch to the national (electronic) component base in 1.5-2 years,” Rogozin said. He also added that the Russian government plans to form an order for domestic microelectronics by the end of 2015.
Somewhat earlier, in July 2015, Dmitry Rogozin announced that Russia was interested in buying an electronic component base for the space industry in China. And the CEO of Russian Space Systems Andrei Tyulin, claims that imported equipment can be replaced by products from domestic manufacturers.
Now electronics for space devices is produced mainly in the USA. The purchase by Russia of equipment from the United States is difficult due to sanctions.
