Apple stops supporting QuickTime for Windows

Apple is phasing out support for its proprietary QuickTime player for Windows. Apple recommends that QuickTime owners remove it from the system, otherwise users may be compromised through 0day vulnerabilities that will never be closed. More recently, two such RCE vulnerabilities have been detected in the player ( ZDI-16-241 , ZDI-16-242 ). They allow attackers to remotely execute code on the victim’s system.

Exploitation of the above vulnerabilities is possible through a specially crafted multimedia file, which can be posted on the website or sent by e-mail to the victim. The QuickTime player has joined the ranks of such popular software as Oracle Java 6, as well as Windows XP, which are also discontinued.
