Dell has released a secure data center for the military

    Big Data goes to war

Data processing is now needed everywhere, especially the military need it, no matter, in the headquarters or in the field. But it may be difficult for the military to maintain contact with a data center located hundreds or even thousands of kilometers from the scene of hostilities. But why not take a data center with you? This is exactly the solution Dell is offering, having announced its Tactical Mobile Data Center.

Naturally, such a system can be used not only by the military, but also by scientists, oil workers, geologists, everyone who needs computing power, and almost every day. The Tactical Mobile Data Center is based on a modified ISU-96 container, which is commonly used by the military, and is often equipped with a cooling unit. Placing computer systems in such a container, which has already established itself as reliable protection during transportation, is a logical step.

Inside there are 3 units of 42U, or 1 volume of 120 U. There are also three distribution systems for supplying energy, which take up a bit of space. There is also a fire suppression system, built-in air cooling with a backup ventilation system. The data center comes with an external copper, fiber or BNC connection for communication with the world. In total, such a container, in 3 42U units, can fit 4.5 tons of computer equipment with an energy consumption of 45 kW.

The basic ISU-96 kit involves the purchase of a glycol-based cooling system. Also inside is a backup battery. All this can be powered by a generator. When buying a system, you can add various options, which will slightly raise the price of the total purchase.

The system is equipped with security monitoring systems, including video cameras and intrusion detectors, plus, if the container is bought by the military, that is, the ability to put down ordinary security is the choice. The system can be transported using Lockheed Martin C-5 Galaxy and C-130 Hercules, Boeing C-17 Globemaster, and McDonnell Douglas KC-10, a data center certified according to the 3G standard for flights. The mobile data center can be transported by air and using the Boeing CH-47 Chinook, as well as transported by rail or regular road.

The data center is protected from the weather, sand and dust. If there is a source of energy, you can "get" the system quickly enough.

Basic equipment costs $ 221,500, and this price does not include the cost of the server, file storage and switch from Dell or other companies. Also, the price does not include the cost of AC / UPS Pack, power system. Currently, the price of AC / UPS Pack has not yet been announced.

According to Dell, the US military became interested in the project, and potential customers from other countries also appeared.
