The relevance of UPS in Tajikistan and a review of the Raccoon generator
The fact that IT can become a locomotive of the economy of any developing country was not written only by the lazy. But this area also needs its own infrastructure. But conditions are not always favorable, and integrator partners need to use all their ingenuity and resourcefulness to implement projects.
This is how, for example, the installation of a UPS solution in Georgia looks like.

No need to be scared, and we had it (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus), then, of course, all these decisions were corrected for newer ones and they began to be put in more favorable conditions. But before that, a bank, a mobile operator, or another company should already work and make a profit, and not wait for someone to make all the comfortable conditions for their business. Therefore, the solution is implemented as possible under the existing infrastructure conditions.
At the moment, in Tajikistan there is an acute question of the deterioration of the republic's old electric networks, which often have not changed since Soviet times. But the enterprise cannot stop its business, even if there are objective problems with the power grid that it cannot affect. Of course, in the long run this influence will be realized - the more tax deductions will be, the better the state can equip the infrastructure, including updating the power grids for the same business.
We will talk about UPSs, more precisely, industrial-grade IPPs (constant power supplies), and we will make a detailed photo review of one diesel generator.

Once, at our IT exhibitionone girl asked: can I put one in my apartment? To which the manager replied: unless if you have a large balcony ... It is clear that the generator is standing on the street under an awning and is waiting in the wings. Or in the basement, with the exhaust pipe pulled out, or on the roof (you saw the installation there in the photo from Georgia).
What is a UPS system in a nutshell? The battery room (s), control panel, and generator are placed in the control room. When the light turns off, energy from the battery is immediately supplied, the battery can hold voltage from 5 to 20 minutes. Most often it is 5 minutes, and only after 5 minutes the generator turns on. Why? Because it can easily be that someone made a short circuit with something, and then a minute later he went and turned on the switch, so as not to pull the generator in vain there is such a temporary gap. Next, the generator turns on, it also takes time - 1-2 minutes to give out the required voltage. And it starts to work, powering the network, and recharging an already depleted battery for the future.
All these temporary gaps in the system - when what turns on and after what time - is set individually. But the general rule is one thing - nothing immediately turns on, and does not turn off immediately. Everywhere there is a gap for warming up, a pause in case of any hands at the knife switch, etc. For example, the light turned off, and if electricity had already appeared, the generator worked for another 2-3 minutes, because despite the fact that the light was turned on, it can be turned off right away - there may be some kind of test inclusion or something else.
A life example, a stadium in the city of a millionaire. The stadium is huge, ultramodern, consumes a lot of electricity, so there were two generators of 5 megawatts there, i.e. 10 megawatts - this can be powered by electricity from the half of the city where the stadium is located! So, as soon as the match started, they immediately launched these two generators and they worked idle, so that at any moment they would turn on without starting and warming up. Because if a tram goes nearby, the voltage will blink, and what - will the light go out during the match?
What you need to consider for those who are just choosing a UPS solution
1. Power, it is clear that you need to calculate how much you need, and it is clear that you need to make a power margin. And it often happens that a company grows very quickly, and they are not always in a hurry to change UPSs to a more powerful one. In such cases, they make the UPS work only for the most important business processes of the company (server or something else), those processes that bring money. And all the other office workers will somehow live a couple of hours without mail and facebook.
A power supply of about 10 kW is calculated for a bank branch with 3 floors of office. In each case, the power is selected individually for the customer. A lot depends on the location of the office, energy consumption, the deterioration of the power line on which the office is located, and what is next to the office.
For example, in one bank, which was on the city square, next to the city tree, so when the tree was turned on in the evening, computers with banking programs started to slow down.
2. Self-service generator. It is very important that the generator itself can diagnose itself and turn on the modes it needs when necessary. So that the engineer (who went on vacation) does not stand above him and does not nurse like with a child. Automatic engine shutdown at high temperature and fluid overheating, low oil pressure, failed start, emergency stop, etc. Everything is important for the safety of the operating staff and also reduces the risk of breakage.
The customer can be large and small
UPS systems are needed where computers must operate 24 hours a day without interruptions.
Who cares?
- Certainly banks, mobile operators.
- Where constant navigation is needed, where security depends on it. Railroad (without electricity - it is fraught with train accidents), airports (since the navigation system for airplanes should always work)
- Medical facilities - expensive high-precision equipment can work there, which can burn out from a power surge, and besides, during the operation the surgical can not de-energize branch.
- Small and medium-sized businesses - large online stores, warehouses that need to constantly work and ship goods.
- It also happens that a sufficiently powerful system is provided by a private customer - for example, if the light turns off during a sauna operation, this system will catch up and prevent anyone from freezing.
What to do if you are a customer
Do not save. This is not software or servers that need to be updated constantly. This is electrical engineering, more precisely electromechanics, a power unit. It depends on its quality, power and reliability whether you will have an emergency, when your storage system will not work due to lack of electricity, and valuable transactions will not be carried out.
Upon request, the generator must be run-in, depending on power, from 50 to 100 hours to check not only the generator, but the entire UPS system.
What to do if you are an integrator
Show the customer how much he can lose from downtime 1 working hour without the electricity of his IT infrastructure. Since, of course, everyone wants to save money everywhere (now there is no money, etc.) But it’s better not to talk about how much it costs, but how much it can cost if a) there is no spare raft and b ) if you save on this.
And if the UPS itself stops ?!
Everything happens in life. The engine may clutter up. It happens that the control processor burns out on the remote control, or on the battery box, but here the supplier gives a guarantee - either he sends a new one or repairs it. The warranty for our generators is 2 years.
The industry standard for industrial generators is ISO 8528

An important element for the transportation of such a unit - not all generators are.

Fuel drain plug on the outside. It must be said that all plugs for filling / draining the coolant and fuel are located outside. This is for convenience, so as not to get into the generator during operation.

Coolant fill neck.

Built-in metal fuel tank with indicator and electronic fuel level sensor.

A sound-absorbing casing is an important part not only for your office neighbors but also for you, since few people will please a tractor working nearby. Rigid housing and all-weather.

Silencer -25 Db. Convenient access to the radiator for maintenance.

Exhaust silencer, followed by cooling pipes.
