Available HP ProLiant Server Models (10 and 100 Series)

Hewlett-Packard traditionally has a wide range of servers that can satisfy the needs of both the smallest companies and monsters from the top ten corporations in the world. Moreover, in recent years there has been a clear shift towards expanding the line of entry-level models. On December 1, 2014, the company introduced the new ProLiant DL10 series of servers , aimed at companies just starting their business or seeking to minimize the cost of buying servers. The ProLiant DL100 or ML100 series offer a higher level of system performance and expandability during operation compared to the ProLiant DL10 and are aimed at the widest possible range of customers.

It should be noted that all the servers in question belong to the ninth generation of servers in the HP ProLiant Generation 9 (Gen9) line. The ProLiant DL160 and ProLiant DL180 models belonging to the ProLiant DL100 series were introduced back in September 2014. In December 2014, the ProLiant DL10 series was introduced with the ProLiant DL60 and ProLiant DL80 models , as well as the ProLiant DL120 and ProLiant ML150 servers , respectively, related to the ProLiant DL100 and ML100 series.

The new servers were based on Intel Haswell processor microarchitecture. This determines the general technical characteristics for these lines, namely support for processors of the familyIntel Xeon E5-2600 v3 and DDR4 RAM.

    HP ProLiant DL10 Series

The ProLiant DL 10 series of servers was developed for the tasks of small companies or tasks that do not require high performance and capacity from the server. Therefore, the models of the series have limitations on the installed processor models, the maximum amount of memory and disks on board. Both models currently available in this series are designed for mounting in a 19 ”rack. The ProLiant DL60 is manufactured in 1U, and the ProLiant DL80 is made in 2U.

    HP ProLiant DL60 Model

    Specifications:

    • Supports up to two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 family processors with a 105 W heat limit (up to 2660)
    • The presence of eight slots for DDR4 RAM. 256 GB maximum RAM (with 32 GB DIMMs)
    • 1U Form Factor
    • Supports up to four large form factor (LFF) SAS / SATA / SSD drives. When ordering a server without disks, it comes with empty sleds (only for disks without hot swapping)
    • Use of up to two 80 PLUS Gold standard power supplies (optional, default is one)
    • 3 PCIe expansion slots
    • Built-in 2 x 1 Gb / s network adapter
    • Infrastructure Management: iLO Management (standard), Intelligent Provisioning (standard), recommended iLO license: iLO Essentials (must be purchased)
    • No dedicated iLO port - iLO traffic always goes through the first network port of the integrated network adapter

    HP ProLiant DL80 Model

    Specifications:

    • Support for up to 2 processors of the Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 family with a 105 W heat limit (up to model 2660)
    • The presence of eight slots for DDR4 RAM. 256 GB maximum RAM (with 32 GB DIMMs)
    • 2U Form Factor
    • Two chassis options: supporting 8 or 12 large form factor (LFF) SAS / SATA / SSD drives. In a chassis with 8 disks, you can subsequently install a basket for 4 additional disks. When ordering a server without disks, it comes with empty sleds (only for disks without hot swapping)
    • Use of up to two power supplies (option, default is one)
    • 6 PCIe expansion slots
    • Built-in 2 x 1 Gb / s network adapter
    • Infrastructure Management: iLO Management (standard), Intelligent Provisioning (standard), recommended iLO license: iLO Essentials (must be purchased)
    • No dedicated iLO port - iLO traffic always goes through the first network port of the integrated network adapter

A distinctive feature of this series is the use of only large form factor (LFF) drives and the use of four RAM slots for each processor. In general, the servers of this 10 series are perfect for the role of a domain controller, mail, file or backup server. It is better to trust highly loaded tasks to servers of the older 100 or 300 series. The

limitations also affected the manufacturer’s warranty, which is 1/1/1 - one year for components, one year for replacement and on-site maintenance.

HP ProLiant DL100 and ML100 Series

These series of servers were developed taking into account a wider range of tasks than ProLiant DL 10. Therefore, it is possible to choose a configuration from a larger set of options, and expand the configuration to a large scale (mainly due to disks and memory). The ProLiant DL 100 series is designed for mounting in a 19 ”rack and is represented by a single-processor server ProLiant DL120 in 1U design and two dual-processor servers - ProLiant DL160 in 1U and ProLiant DL180 in 2U.

The ProLiant ML150 pedestal server in the ProLiant ML 100 series does not need a 19 ”rack for installation. It has improved support for graphics cards (using the PCIe 3.0 expansion slots, it is possible to install two graphics cards of standard width or one double width), which increases its performance when working with graphics.

A distinctive feature of the ProLiant DL 100 and ML 100 series is the use of both large form factor (LFF) and small form factor (SFF) drives and the use of eight memory slots for each processor (in series 10 - only 4 slots per processor).

The warranty from the manufacturer is 3/1/1 - three years for components, one year for replacement and on-site maintenance.

Currently, HP has six entry-level server models of the 10 and 100 series. Therefore, even the smallest company has the ability to choose the necessary configuration for its own server. Intel Haswell processor microarchitecture with support for four-channel memory has increased the number of slots for RAM from 12 to 16 in the 100 series servers, compared with the previous generation servers.

The use of the latest developments in the field of processor microarchitectures and power supplies with 80 PLUS Gold certificates in Hewlett-Packard servers helps to achieve the highest possible performance, taking into account high energy efficiency, compact layout, reliability and fault tolerance.

The presence of a guarantee and product support by the manufacturer according to the scheme 3/1/1 for the 100 series and 1/1/1 for the 10 series allows you to save the company from possible problems at the implementation stage and the initial life cycle.

And finally, support for the built-in HP iLO management tools (which we will cover in future publications) allows you to perform remote deployment, monitoring, and server maintenance. All this together allows us to achieve an advantage over competing offers on the market in this sector.
