Toilet Guide, or Toto's Smart Toilets

Dirt and waste - this is what toilets are usually associated with. And with these associations, the Toto Research Center in Kyushu successfully fights. Japanese toilets are probably the best in the world, but also somewhat frightening - there are too many buttons and unknown characters on them. Not to mention the fear of being eaten by a crazy toilet, or being doused with water.

Japan's largest toilet manufacturer is not located in Tokyo. The headquarters of Toto is located hundreds of kilometers from the capital, on the island of Kyushu. The company has been operating for almost 100 years - since 1917, and is a "dressing version of Apple." At the same time, Toto considers himself the best not because of the latest technologies that he builds in toilets, but because of the heritage in the field of plumbing.

Rinse, weigh, measure sugar

Custom Washlet toilets focus more on physics and chemistry than electronics. Modern Toto toilets have nanotechnological coatings on the inside to protect against pollution, as well as to prevent adhesion to the surfaces of human waste. The latest models will also raise or lower the seat without your help.

Integration with high technology has peaked with the Smart Toilet project. Together with the construction giant Daiwa House, the company has developed a system that includes scales built into the floor of a room, a blood sugar meter and a blood pressure monitor. as well as access to the Internet and a doctor and ... urine tests. The price tag starts at $ 6,100.

But Tornado is the toilet version of Dyson’s Cyclon technology. The washing process requires less water, which, by the way, in Russia with counters would be very important. To create technology, Toto combines with universities and uses supercomputers to model physics.

Princesses don't poop

For many decades, modest Japanese flushed water in public toilets before starting the actual process for which they came. This is done to mask the sound. Imagine how much water has flowed in vain! In order to prevent such a careless attitude to clean water, the “princess sound” was invented - turning on the system using a motion sensor, you and people outside will hear the sound of the forest or music.

Bidet

The bidet seems to be more hygienic. Therefore, in the toilets of Toto there is this function. You can adjust the temperature and pressure, and choose oscillating or pulsed jets. In the video, you see a pulsating Washlet stream. This is a stream from a mixture of air and water, the epicenter of which occurs on the seventh centimeter from the nozzle.

Business

Despite the countless advantages of these toilets, there are not many of them in the West. And it's not a high price tag. Cultural discomfort is more important: everyone goes to the toilet, but nobody wants to talk about it. It is difficult to interact with consumers. Marketing manager Kohler notes that it’s hard to interact with consumers - it’s hard to go beyond design issues and basic toilet functions in a conversation.

Steve Scheer, head of Brondell, argues that it’s extremely difficult to change someone’s “toilet” habits. And that is why not everyone thinks about putting at least a bidet at home.

Do not be afraid - even if you accidentally press a button, the system will not pour water on you. Weight sensors built into the seat will first need to check for the presence of a person on it.
