What is an IT community?

We are constantly confronted with the category of IT community or IT community. When we read a habr, we subscribe to publics in social networks, etc. Articles often refer to this single community entity (for example, here ). What is an IT community, how is it characterized and different, for example, from a fishing community or from a union of architects? Is there any community at all outside the texts of posts and articles? What do we mean when we relate or do not relate to the IT community? Where did it come from? Who goes in there?

We recently asked these questions and would like to discuss them here. Share opinions on this.

Many IT experts considerthat it is possible to develop some common requirements for all. Someone even participates in nationwide initiatives on behalf of the IT community ( one , two ).

It is interesting to conduct a sociological research and understand who we are, and whether it is “We” at all. If not, then why is this concept so firmly rooted in our language and life. And why everyone around him is constantly using it.

Based on the results of this (and this ) survey, it is planned to write a separate post and analyze the figures, requirements, positions. Take everything into account.

It would be interesting to understand what is happening in the industry as a whole and in the IT world, and for this we need the help of a Habr!
