Festo developers created a kangaroo robot (video)

Festo the company over the past few years has created a number of interesting projects, including a dragonfly robot , Chaika robot , a new type of wind turbine .

The other day, the company introduced its new project: the BionicKangaroo robot kangaroo. This robot is trained to jump like ... well, yes, like a kangaroo. Why a kangaroo? The fact is that these animals very efficiently use their own body when jumping, and the developers decided to create a mechanical creature that can jump on the same principle as a real animal.

Of course, the kangaroo robot does not move as gracefully as the kangaroo animal, but the principle is used the same. And I must say, the movement of the robot is quite effective, using a minimum amount of energy.

The design of the robot uses a combination of pneumatic and electric motors. A special motor controls the movement of the tail and paws of the kangaroo. In addition, the robot has small front "paws", like an animal. These paws, along with the tail, help maintain proper balance.

By the way, the developers provided for the presence of artificial “tendons” in the claws of a kangaroo robot. During the jump, these tendons made of rubber play the role of a shock absorber, in addition, they help to accumulate the kinetic energy used for the next jump.
