Translation and dubbing of the MARS ONE WAY video

A few weeks ago, a video interview appeared with the selection participants for the MARS ONE project. We, inspired by the translations, decided to voice this video.
I will say right away that this was the first experience in dubbing the interview, and, as it turned out, it was not so easy. But first things first.

Having little experience in dubbing feature films, in the interview we ran into an “unexpected” problem, it turns out that living people and actors in films are two big differences, and they say, respectively, also differently.

A huge, just disastrously large, pause time between words and sentences. With our desire to make the translation as close as possible in terms of emotions and, at the same time, reliable from the literary point of view, these pauses were crazy.

It is quite difficult to be faithful to the source and at the same time to observe such large gaps, because the words in English and Russian languages have different lengths, therefore, they are pronounced differently. Speaking faster and trying to get into timing, you can miss the necessary emotion.
But immediately make a reservation, the task is not impossible, just a little patience and perseverance and the result will not be long in coming.

    Labor costs

Translation: two people - 1 hour
Voice: Four people - 4 hours
Sound purification, mixing: one person - 3 hours

If there is interest, we will write a more detailed article on the example of another scientific interview - about the process itself, preparation, tuning, equipment used and little tricks.

    And now the result itself:
