Holidays for the wimps

In this wonderful New Year's holiday season, I would like to share the translation of the notes of the American businessman Seth Bannon. He discusses the need for periodic rest to conduct productive activities on projects, and I completely agree with him:

We all understand the absurdity of the old saying “sleep for wimps.” She was left in the past by a group of studies empirically showing that sleep actually makes you smarter , stronger and more creative . But when it comes to serious rest and relaxation, there is still a kind of taboo.

I recently returned from a five-day vacation on the Puerto Rican island of Culebra, which was planned quite spontaneously because I felt that I would soon be burned to work. Every time I tell people about the trip, I mention "This is just my third vacation since the founding of Amicus ." Everytime. Once, lying on the beach, I realized what I was doing: I apologized for the vacation, because I felt guilty. In front of my teammates, friends, fellow entrepreneurs. I could say "vacation for wimps."

Professional runners between marathons take a long rest. They do not apologize for this, and no one condemns them for this, because everyone knows that rest and recovery is an integral part of the life of a professional athlete. The same is true for entrepreneurs (and indeed for everyone, in fact). You must be careful not to burn out at work. A good rest is also included in it. Sleep and exercise help, but sometimes long breaks are needed, whose results, reflected in creativity, productivity and happiness, are well known .

Enough of making excuses for rest and relaxation. This not only hurts you, but also leads the rest of the team to the wrong thoughts. So the next time you plan your vacation, announce it with pride.
