HDMI 2.0 specifications released

    HDMI Forum Inc. today announced the release of official specifications for the HDMI 2.0 standard. The latest version of HDMI supports data transfer at speeds up to 18 Gb / s, which is enough to broadcast 4K UHD video (3840 × 2160) with a frame rate of 50/60 frames per second.

    With a size of 8.3 megapixels, each 4K UHD frame contains four times more information than a 1080p (1920 × 1080) frame. The HDMI 2.0 standard supports up to 32 audio channels with a sampling frequency of up to 1536 kHz.

    Best of all, the new standard is compatible with old HDMI cables of the High Speed ​​category (category 2) and old connectors, so there is no need to update the equipment.

    From other HDMI 2.0 of interesting features:

    • Simultaneous broadcasting of two video streams to several viewers on one screen. Finally, the couple will be able to honestly split the TV in half.
    • Simultaneous broadcasting of up to four audio streams.
    • Support for screens with aspect ratios up to 21: 9.
    • Dynamic synchronization of video and sound track.
    • CEC extensions for advanced management and command transfer to electronic devices from a single control point.

    Licensing of a new format for manufacturers will begin shortly through the agent HDMI Licensing, LLC. The same company has committed itself to promoting the new standard, supplying reference materials to manufacturers, sellers and consumers. There are no separate royalties for using HDMI 2.0, all HDMI 1.x licensees just need to sign an application for a license extension, and they can pay royalties at the same rate.
