Technopark Mail.Ru from the inside

    Hello, Habr!
There have already been several articles about the Technopark: Technopark Mail.Ru Start , a post inspired by the technopark infographics , articles about the taught disciplines ( first , second ) ...
I was honored to talk about what the Technopark is from the student's point of view.

The Technopark program is designed for students of the 3-5th year of the university, but it so happened that I got into the program for the 1st year. At first it was unusual to digest unfamiliar things (for example, mat. Statistics, which should have been only six months later), but this did not become an obstacle.

“It is necessary to work not 12 hours, but the head. But if you don’t get your head, then work a lot. ” Everything complicated can be taken with effort, which, in principle, I did.
The main thing is not to be afraid of difficulties, as some do, and if it’s really cool and cool somewhere, then go there without thinking about the obstacles.

In the first semester, we studied web technologies and algorithms and data structures, and these subjects put their brains in place very well. Knowledge of web-technologies (servers, protocols, frontend-technologies) is used every day, and AiSD give an understanding of the work of ready-made libraries, which helps to optimize the work.

In the second semester, we wrote a game server, designed databases and studied HighLoad: learned to cope with loads, wrote their own static web server and compared it with nginx.
Perhaps this is the most unique 3 courses. Where else will students write their own browser-based Tanchiki in the classroom, like in Dandy, and then they will be chopped into them as part of manual testing?

In the recently completed third semester, we screeched into business and system analysis , learned how to design user-friendly interfaces, learned methods of protection against hacking and attacks, and plunged into the limitless world of testing and continuous integration.

Technopark is not only lectures, seminars and exams. This is, first of all, communication with leading experts.
The members of the circle were invited to work on their own scientific projects, and Jobs decided to assemble a digital frequency meter, <...>. To do this, he needed parts that were manufactured at HP; he picked up the phone and called directly to the president of the company.

"<...> He answered, talked with me for twenty whole minutes, sent the necessary details and offered work at the factory ..." [Isaacson 2012, 40]

Unique: take and get advice from CISO Mail.Ru Group in person or by mail.

Of particular note is the fact that Technopark has actively participated in organizing internships at Mail.Ru Group. All my techno-mates work in Internet companies, the vast majority, of course, in Mail.Ru.
Two months ago, I also came to the company for an internship: I am engaged in the tp.mail.ru portal and various internal developments of the Technopark. In my opinion, the purpose of the internship is not to apply all the knowledge that was given to us (there is no HighLoad on the Technopark portal yet), but to learn how to work in a team, become inspired by the development spirit and, again, pick up best practices from your colleagues. Then there will be growth.

Interview Of course, tasks that will quickly bring anyone to the clean water. For me, the biggest problem has always been the speed of solution, and when you need to give an answer relatively quickly, the answer in your head spins, but you can’t say. At Mail.Ru Group, you will always be pushed towards a solution, and you will not get bogged down in the swamp of your own thoughts. In my opinion this is productive.

The first working day passed in the old office in Avion Business Center. After a year and a half of communication with the employees of Mail.Ru Group in the Technopark, I was very familiar and dear to me a little less than everyone. Integration into a new team and immersion in a corporate atmosphere was painless and imperceptible.

Mail.Ru Group is very liberal with interns. The main thing is the completed tasks, so the schedule is flexible more than completely. The office is open 24/7. This allows you to fully study at the university and close the session perfectly.

Work in a large company does not make people "helpless waste material with a slave-consumer mentality," as Pavel Durov wrote earlier. Having been in the Mail.Ru Group environment, I did not notice anything negative; desire to live, develop and create is only increasing, but, of course, it all depends on the person. Again, if you sit in a closet under the stairs and write startups, then failure does not teach you how to succeed: you reinforced your experience of failing startups. Therefore, I decided to go my way through a large company, through an environment of already held developers. Time will tell.

    27 floors of Runet. Dream.

In the end, I would like to contribute my 5 kopecks to the “holy war” about higher education in Russia. Yes, there are problems, but this is not a reason to leave or scold the country. Problems are solved one way or another, because there are those who are interested in solving them.
Technopark Mail.Ru is a living example. A person seeking education in Russia will always find him.

I think those who have experience in training under similar projects will agree with me - and perhaps share it in the comments.

    Thanks, Mail.Ru.
