How education is created. History of Online Science Classroom

    We are a young development team called Online Science Classroom.
    The main direction of our activity is the development of applications for devices based on Android and iOS. We create education products for adults, schoolchildren and younger children.



    "So what?" - you say.
    Young, developers, applications, training, children - nothing new.
    But!
    We came to Habr not just like that, but about. Today is exactly one year from the moment we entered the mobile application market. How did we come to this and what came of it?

    Who!

    Online Science Classroom exists since 2002. It all started with the “Boring Lessons” project for the Brookhaven Laboratory - physics training materials for middle school students. It was very nanotechnological for those years - animation lessons, not just simple, but interactive! And the rather modest features of Macromedia Flash MX 6 (well, remember, huh?) Struck the imagination cleaner than James Cameron.



    After that there were other projects, also educational and also for schoolchildren, already for a Russian-speaking audience - physics, chemistry, geography, history, biology ... In such a simple manner, our employees accumulated a good amount of knowledge in various fields of science and formed an idea of ​​interests and needs modern schoolchildren.

    Why?

    Further more. I wanted something new. I wanted to realize something of my own, interesting, exciting, useful. Our team is not only programmers, designers, screenwriters, testers and educators, many of them are happy and loving parents. Therefore, the ideas of boring lessons and training using game elements are very, very close to us.

    2010 year. We are developing a new segment for us - games on social networks. Games for VKontakte and Odnoklassniki were released, but they did not achieve significant success. It was decided to close the project and shift its attention to a more suitable platform for our purposes - a mobile one.



    year 2012. Spring. To the accompaniment of apple color comes our first iOS app - “Biology - Plant Morphology”. To get started, we selected a ready-made desktop reference application and adapted it for a mobile device. The first promo video was shot - a good example of “how not to do it”, now we see it.



    Time passed, and now our videos look like this:



    Year of development - is it a lot or a little? Hard to say. But some success was achieved:



    Now we have 9 applications that are available in the App Store, Google Play and Samsung Apps.

    What for?

    Despite the growing number of software products in different markets every day, Runet is not at all full of information about the development and promotion of Education applications. And although our experience cannot yet be called extensive, we would like to some extent fill this “information gap” with the help of articles on this blog.
    We plan to introduce the habrasociety to our products in order to receive feedback from tech savvy readers.
    In addition, we are very interested in discussing the technical aspects - programming, design and marketing. And in the next post we will publish pencil sketches of the leading designer - this is something! In addition to jokes. Do not miss.
