The end of GPRS "on traffic": MTS and Beeline raised the price of a megabyte to 10 rubles

    MTS operator in the news with an optimistic headline "Mobile Internet from MTS for all occasions!" warned its subscribers that from March 18, the cost of GPRS traffic will be about 10 rubles per megabyte. 9 rubles 90 kopecks, to be exact.

    The very way of presenting information on tariff changes is worthy of a separate prize for the “quality” of corporate communication:

    (the most useful is hidden in the sixth paragraph)

    Beeline introduced similar tariffs even earlier, but the main question is different:

    Obviously, the cost of operator’s traffic can only fall and that's it tariff manipulations are intended only to increase subscribers' expenses either in the form of increased payment for traffic or in the form of their transition to unlimited tariff plans.

    (Super MTS, Go! and “Switch to 0” tariffs were compared, respectively)

    The share of users who are left to profit from the megabyte tariffs for mobile Internet has been declining earlier, mainly for two reasons.

    First: cheaper unlimited Internet access packages;
    Second: switching to more “gluttonous” devices with touch-screens, which cannot be fully used without access to the Internet.

    As a result, many of those who spend a little traffic connect unlimited Internet packages just in order not to face a sudden cost overrun. A random “arrival of firmware” can cost several hundred rubles.
    People do not like stress and unpredictability. And it’s only for the operators, but such a policy does not look friendly towards consumers of mobile services.

    How to be It is very simple - to limit the possible loss of subscribers. Voluntarily, without requiring them to subscribe to unlimited tariffs. And do not rejoice that the subscriber did not follow the traffic, but give the consumer the right to a relatively inexpensive error.

    Is it possible to maintain subscriber loyalty, in case of error?

    Can. For example, in the Finnish Saunalahti network, a subscriber, if he has not connected an unlimited access package to the network (from 6.8 euros per month), and accidentally downloaded something voluminous from the network, will leave this day with only 1.9 euros. This, of course, will lead him to the idea that it would be nice to connect unlimited access to the Internet, but will not leave him without pants.
