The camera module for the Raspberry Pi will cost $ 25 and shoot FullHD video

After the start of development in May 2012, a long time passed. Making the camera module for the Pi turned out to be not so simple, but the work is nearing its end. The official blog says that the camera modules will be on sale in a month or a little later. The quality of the photos is already "quite good", and by the beginning of sales they promise to bring it to the "beautiful". Price announced in advance: $ 25 per module.

Some technical specifications: 5 MP sensor (2560 × 1920 pixels), 1080p video capture.
Unfortunately, the power of the Raspberry Pi processor is not enough to operate a full-fledged computer vision system. For example, when connecting a webcam via USB with a resolution of 320x240, the OpenCV system only processes 1.5 FPS .
But on the other hand, the Raspberry Pi can shoot 1080p video and broadcast it over the network at 30 fps for processing on a normal PC, even with a lag of a couple of seconds, but this is really cool (see video below). Thus, the Raspberry Pi is suitable for video surveillance systems, robotics and other areas where you need to shoot and transfer high-quality photos and videos.
Recall that a couple of days ago began selling Model A for $ 25. If she had an Ethernet-port, it would be possible to make a network FullHD-video camera for only $ 50, and so you have to pay $ 60, which is also not bad.
