MTS launches branded smartphone with support for NFC payments

MTS has released the first smartphone with NFC support and contactless payments in its line of branded gadgets.

This model has become the first carrier NFC-smartphone that can be used for contactless payments, without thinking about additional devices. At the same time, the MTS 965 is not among the advanced smartphones in terms of technical specifications:

    - Android 2.3
    - touch screen, 3.5 "diagonal, resolution 320x480
    - 5 MP camera
    - built-in 512 MB memory, microSD (TransFlash) memory cards
    - support for Bluetooth, NFC , Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS
    - weight 125 g, battery 1250 mAh

It will cost about 5 thousand rubles: it is much cheaper than other models available on the domestic market with NFC support.

The launch of a carrier phone with NFC support in an actively growing segment of budget smartphones will help popularize NFC services. Over the next few months, MTS plans to increase the use of contactless payments among its subscribers by at least a third by selling authorized Mastercard branded phone
    - told RIA Novosti MTS spokeswoman Valeria Kuzmenko.

To use NFC technology, the owner is offered to change his SIM card to a special one from MTS, which will ensure the passage of NFC payments. MTS-Bank Mastercard bank card will be emulated on this SIM-card. Payment using such a card will be carried out without charging commissions worldwide. The bank is also not going to take payments for servicing the card. If you have a payment terminal compatible with Master Card Pay Pass wireless payment technology, you only need to bring a smartphone to it in order to pay. If the transaction amount is up to 1 thousand rubles, authorization of the bank card holder will not be required; for more expensive purchases, you will need to enter the PIN code issued by the bank.

According to MTS, contactless payment services have good potential, and the next five years, the currently absent domestic NFC-payment market may increase to 50 billion rubles a year.

It is worth noting that while contactless payment technology is not very secure, as evidenced by numerous studies and articles .
