App Annie: Asian market provides half of Google Play’s revenue

    The other day, App Annie published the latest statistics on the analysis of the mobile application market over the past eight months. Read about 311% increase in revenue from Google Play, growth in profits from the eastern region and the dominance of Asian publishers in the world top box office publishers, read below (a full translation of the report can be found on the App2Top.ru website).

    According to App Annie, in 2012 Google Play revenue increased by 311%, while the App Store revenue increased by a modest 12.9%. Thus, the distance between the indicators of competing stories has significantly decreased. Now, the profit of Google Play is less than the App Store’s indicators by about 4 times (as of January 2012, Google’s revenue was only about 10% of the App Store level).

    With an increase in Google Play revenue in October compared to the previous month by 17.9%, App Store performance over the past period even fell by 0.7%. By the way, regarding the latter fact, Apple has already turned to the resources that posted the App Annie report, wanting to refute the opinion of a drop in revenue from its market.

    As for the download rate, over the past 5 months, the number of downloads on the App Store increased by only 3.3%, while their growth on Google Play amounted to 48%.

    In many respects, according to App Annie, the Asian market became the catalyst for the platform’s popularity growth. Both in terms of income and downloads. But while the USA is still the leader in terms of the number of downloads from Google Play, Japan has moved America from the first place in terms of the amount of profit it brings to the store. Behind the "land of the rising sun" 29% of the total revenue of the store with only 6% of downloads. Note that Japan’s Google Play revenue for the current calendar year increased 10 times. In third place by income (18%) is the South Korean market with 11% of downloads.

    On the App Store, the picture is completely different. The United States brings a third of the revenue to the store, and from there the larger number of downloads. Japan accounts for 14% of store revenue and 6% of downloads, while the Chinese market provides another 15% of downloads to the App Store.

    The Asian region has received the same attention in the ranking of Google Play publishers. The top ten most profitable publishers of the market - 8 Asian companies. The top three are exclusively Japanese publishers: DeNA, which released this year’s top box office hit - Rage of Bahamut, COLOPL and GungHo Online.

    As for the App Store, the largest revenue platform provided Electronic Arts, numbering 962 projects on iOS. The second place with only two games belongs to the Finnish Supercell, the third place goes to Zynga, which managed to move Gameloft and Apple itself.
