Rockchip RK3066 compatible version of Ubuntu

Owners of devices on the Rockchip RK3066 platform can be satisfied. Developer AndrewDB has announced a pre-alpha 0.2 release of Ubuntu 12.10, compatible with the UG802, MK802 III, and MK808 mini-PCs. All these devices were described on Habré, and many regretted that it is impossible to put any Linux distribution on them instead of Android. Well, now you can.

UG802, MK802 III, MK808 are both mini-PCs, and so-called TV sticks, which are sold at a price less than $ 100. They were created mainly for connecting to a TV or monitor, and as a result we get a large device based on Adnroid. Now, Linux can also be installed on these devices, resulting in an inexpensive PC capable of performing the functions usual for office desktops (plus multimedia playback).

Of course, along with the distribution you can install a home media center, web server or any other application. The presented release supports almost all hardware on the mentioned devices, including mouse, keyboard, webcam (connected via USB). Unfortunately, there is no support for the WiFi module (built-in) yet, so if you need wireless, you will have to buy an external USB-WiFi module.

The release is very "fresh", as mentioned above, this is pre-alpha 0.2, and installing it on the RK3066 mini-PC is not so simple. First you need to root the Android device, then, picking up a PC with Windows or Linux, you need to install a custom kernel, and only then download the Ubuntu image from the microSD card.

Actually, most representatives of the Linux community will not find this installation process so complicated, so it's time to try. In pre-alpha 0.4, the developer promises to simplify the installation process.
