PengPod to launch dualboot Linux / Android tablets in January

Company PengPod plans to begin shipment of 7 and 10-inch tablet with support as Linux, and Android as early as January. The company, founded by Neal Peacock, nevertheless managed to get more than $ 50,000 to develop a “tablet” Linux distribution with full support for all devices. It was planned to raise 49 thousand dollars, but it turned out more.

The tablets of this company are called PengPod 700 and PengPod 1000(7 and 10 inches respectively). They are based on the Allwinner A10 ARM Cortex-A8 processors, a platform that is well suited for Ubuntu, Fedora, or other Linux distributions. In general, some developers have been sawing Linux for a long time, trying to optimize some distributions for tablets. But without a development center, all these attempts are not carried through. For some, the camera does not work, for someone there is no sound. It is also planned to create such a distribution kit here that will fully and fully support the hardware of the tablet.

The most interesting thing is that the company plans to release its tablets preinstalled on the internal storage of Android, and with Linux on the memory card that comes with the device. In other words, the device will work both with Android and with selected developers of Linux distributions / distribution. As mentioned above, the modified Linux distribution will support absolutely all the hardware of the tablet, including a touch screen, sound, video, camera and more.

As for the resolution of the display, it is not as large as that of many modern tablets. For example, in the 7-inch version, the display will support a resolution of 800 * 480 pixels. 10-inch version - 1024 * 600 pixels. It is clear that such tablets are not for those who need a powerful tablet. But with the main tasks that are usually demanded by users, PengPod tablets quite cope.
