Interns at OpenSource

Let's agree right away, all of the following is an exclusively random flight of my imagination.
The purpose of the post is to ask the habrasociety for advice on the idea that has arisen and to receive support for the stars , and maybe practical experience.

In our company, for a period of 3 to 6 months, a number of ASP.NET programmers have been continuously trained. An internship involves the implementation of a large number of laboratory tasks under the supervision of a curator that are completely unnecessary to anyone and are not used at all after the development is completed. And at one point, I had a thought - and not connect them to the development of any open-source project?

This is much more interesting for the interns themselves + we will contribute to the Open Source movement. Anticipating angry comments like “Yes, they are needed there, they’ll spoil everything”, I’ll explain that in my opinion the only weak point is the development speed, since the final code is still written under the strict supervision of an experienced curator and undergoes a thorough review. In fact, we offer the Open Sorce project the working hands that we feed, pay and help in every way. Of course, the interns are unlikely to be suitable for solving some global tasks, but still I don’t think they will remain idle ...

I would really appreciate any opinion on this venture, maybe even someone can advise specific projects ...
