How to make video reviews of IT courses

  • Tutorial

We have our training center . And then one day there was a desire to remove one seminar. And then they decided that if there are people - why not take them off ?! After all, they can say on the camera those reviews that they usually write on paper. They took video reviews, and then thought: what to do with all this? Below is the first experience in this matter and small developments on how to do this.

Immediately spoiler about the necessary video quality for YouTube
In my opinion, YouTube does not need Hollywood, super-duper quality is not needed - no one will appreciate it, everyone will appreciate WHAT is filmed there, just look what goes into the top views (seals and wines / fails) - the main thing is that you upload there. Even the coolest studios shoot YouTube videos in the style of home video so that no one has any doubts about the fake (remember the promotional video of a frantic clerk - an advertisement for the movie “Especially Dangerous”). So the glamor on YouTube is such an answer - “Who are you? Give goodbye! ”, Nobody needs him there.

So, the task is: to make video reviews of the courses of our training center. I will try to explain the whole technique in the form of answers to the questions that I posed to myself before making videos.

What is the duration of the video?

I think that it is optimal from 2 to 3, a maximum of 5 minutes. The shorter the better. If the videos are longer, then this will already be a graphomaniac video. And then there are other laws. There are such requirements for a short video: the conciseness and brevity of the text within the meaning - when I explain to the person who will appear in our videos (this is a simple employee - not a showman) that imagine that you are traveling in an elevator and you have time to tell about your in fact, only while the elevator is going. Then the person himself cleans his speech from unnecessary details and garbage, and speaks only about the main thing.

NB: When editing, the general principle is this - all the best - forward movie, since the chances that this is important to watch increase when this plot is at the beginning of the movie.

How many reviews should be in the video?

There must be 3 reviews. Since 1 or even 2 is not enough somehow, but 3 just right.
What should be the questions for the training participants?
Presentation: What is your name? Company? Position? Field of activity?
You’re asking so not to put it in the video, and then to remember who’s their name, and then put in the credits. After you have made the credits, send the person a screenshot with the credits - like, is everything ok?

  • What are your impressions of the course / training / seminar?
  • What did you like? What didn’t you like?
  • How do you evaluate the work and competence of the trainer / instructor / teacher?
  • How do you rate the overall work of the MUK Training Center?

The general principle is this: all that a person says is divided into 2 parts:

1. Assessment of the course itself, the program, the instructor should be in one part
2. Assessment of the organization, location, tea and coffee, etc., in the other part of the mini-interview.

What is it for? Because if something is wrong in the organization - so that it does not transfer to a course and to an innocent instructor, and vice versa.

Regarding the honesty of the reviews. There really is a moment of courage, and everyone decides what to do with it - even if they say something not very pleasant, then, of course, they might not miss this review, but, on the other hand, if they made some remark - then you need an answer. Immediately after the response-question: the organizer must answer that we are working on errors, etc. This will show that you are not afraid of criticism and honestly admit your mistakes, and are open to dialogue. We haven’t had such video reviews so far, if they do, then they should work too, because if everything is sweet, it becomes cloying.

What should be the interruptions?

Panorama of the class with students - it is imperative that the viewer sees the learning process.
Instructor certificates (if any). And if they say, they evaluate the instructor, there should be his certificates.
Middle plans: people are discussing something animatedly, people are writing something, the instructor is showing something on the board. Scribbled board on the topic. If there is laboratory work - a screen with exercises, manuals and handouts.
Close-ups: attentive listener (2-3 listener plans), a pen on the table, someone writes in a summary
General plans: delivery of a certificate - required + applause at delivery.

Duration of interruptions?

3-5 seconds.
Easy hitting can be used if you want to focus on something. Or if you put photos - it is also possible, only a slight hitting is necessary - this adds imperceptible dynamics, because the photo is static.

The number of interruptions?

10, and better 15. So there was plenty to choose from.

How should whole lectures be drawn up?

On a black screen in white letters: Topic of the seminar, moderator (regalia), vendors, venue, date, city. To make it clear what the lecture is about, because even if you have your own video on the site where there will be signatures about what the video is, people can watch these videos from the list of what YouTube recommends to users who are interested in this topic, for example ITIL or PMbok.

What should be the dice for the captions?

Uncomplicated, simple color. You can, of course, make all sorts of overflows and transitions there - but who will appreciate it? You see, this video is not looking at your credits, but it’s up to you to decide whether to go to this course, whether to go to this training center?

We have a red color in the logo, so I had to tinker a bit, since the red color is broken by rendering with rendering - so there should be a bright red. There is already what color you put, this will be, only, of course, not pink.

What size should captions with signatures about a person be?

Captions should be slightly larger. Since when you watch your video on the monitor - this is one thing, but you upload this video to YouTube - it will digest it, it will be smaller - and no one will read your letters. After all, no one deploys videos on YouTube to the full screen (there are but few of them).

When uploading a video to YouTube

It’s necessary to indicate the essence of the video in the video title itself - in short. So that even before you start watching your video, a person already understands what he will see. Since there is nothing worse if a person was going to look at the fails (and it’s written in the name of the video), and they show him some kind of pornography, this leads to flagging the video - you can’t deceive the viewer.

Be sure to add a description of the video

Do not add a description - deprive yourself of the part of the audience that will watch your video not from the site / newsletter, etc., but from YouTube, YouTube may recommend watching your videos by likes and user preferences. This is what everything was started for, and here it all depends on what you want to say: phone? Website? Mail? We had a task - this is the recognition of the site of our training center - therefore, in the signatures (and in the video itself) there is a link to the section of the required courses, and to the site itself - a person can choose to follow the links.

Be sure to select tags

Here you are already. There is wordstat.yandex.ru - he will tell you everything.

Using music

The copyright issue of YouTube is very sacred. What can I say from my own experience, if you planted some kind of music - then YouTube usually immediately detects and you receive a letter such as “guy, your video infringes copyright, it will be blocked” - i.e. the video will be, but there will be no sound (and if you are a malicious intruder, they can also block the account - so be careful with this), or it will be blocked in some countries, by the law of which you violate the rules for using this audio. But, if you put music under words, if music sounds for a few seconds during interruptions, words-words interruptions, words-words, interruptions - then YouTube does not detect this as a violation of copyright.

Using interruptions

Interruptions, by the way, serve as semantic separators for plots, as a paragraph mark in a video. This is if between the plots, but if inside the plot (usually it’s the eyes or hands of a person) then they go to assembly gluing - if a person copiously spills his speech - Eeeeee - and this dissonance needs to be cut so that the gluing is not visible, then go these interruptions.

Here is an example of what we took from this. I must say right away, when we figured out how much it will take to hire an operator and an editor - and if you do it all the time (including a permanent format), you can go broke, we decided that it’s worth trying to take it off ourselves. Moreover, as I said - YouTube does not require hard quality. But when it comes to TV - yes there, everything is according to the canon - there is glamor and grace.

Yes, I also forgot - during interruptions, when you show the plans - that people are busy with something, they are studying - you have to say 2 words about the essence of what is going on: like, the training lasts 2 days, consists of a theoretical and practical part - so that people also immediately received information about what will be at the training.

And in this case, we had a shot workshop, but there were no shot video reviews. This option is possible text feedback in the video.
