HTC Desire V - More Than Two In One

Without a mobile phone, now without hands. Many respondents participating in opinion polls admitted that they would rather leave the house without a wallet than without a phone. However, with the popularization of contactless payment technology, a smartphone will be quite capable of replacing the contents of a purse.

With the development of mobile communications, end-user requirements for it have also multiplied. The penetration of cellular networks has also grown steadily, and meeting people with several phones in large cities is much easier than without them.

If you have a personal number where you can talk with family and friends, friends and relatives, you would hardly want to change it. At the same time, many companies resort to corporate services to optimize and control communication costs, and this automatically means receiving another SIM-card.

Although two phones may seem more reliable purely from the standpoint of probability theory, but in terms of convenience and practicality, this is far from the case. You need to monitor the status of data synchronization on both devices, charge them on time, and so on. In the end, one device can be accidentally forgotten or lost, which will result in a waste of time, possible fines and unplanned expenses.

Of course, manufacturers could not help but respond to the situation and demonstrated a number of solutions that can work with two SIM-cards. Over time, these devices occupied niches due to them, but, as a rule, they never went beyond the budget segment.

With the release of HTC Desire V, the balance of power has changed. The device, capable of working with two SIM-cards, has never been presented to the market in such an elegant appearance. Equipped with support for all modern cellular ranges, Desire V is only 9 mm thick and measures 118.5 mm in length and 62 mm in width, respectively. At the same time, the device weighs 114 g, leaving a pleasant sensation from high-quality materials.

The smartphone is running Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, and the convenience of working with it provides a proprietary shell HTC Sense 4.0. The responsiveness of the device is provided by a combination of components such as the Qualcomm MSM7227A chipset, which supports the ARM v7 instruction set, as well as 512 MB of RAM. At the same time, 4 GB is provided for built-in, and you get another 25 GB in the form of cloud storage provided by the popular Dropbox service. The term of free use of this space is 2 years, but after a time the files will not be deleted, it will not be possible to just download new ones.

Bright and high-quality TFT-display with a diagonal of 4 '' and excellent viewing angles is built on SuperLCD technology, which guarantees realistic color reproduction and decent behavior in the sun. Screen resolution is standard for similar sizes and is 800x480 pixels, which allows you to run any popular games and applications without worrying about possible compatibility issues.

The five-megapixel camera is equipped with autofocus and an LED flash, and its interface is as convenient as in the models of the One series. Autonomy is ensured by a 1650 mAh battery, so you can safely count on a full day with active use and up to two days in case of moderate use.

Distracting from the study of TTX, we pay attention to the device itself. The already mentioned subtlety is combined in it with familiar features, and Desire V can be mistaken for One S on the move, and this comparison is definitely to the advantage of the new product. Given the diagonal of the display, the smartphone should be considered compact, and it is guaranteed to be convenient to use with one hand, and to reach the notification panel and the top edge of the screen, you will not have to make any effort.

The well-thought-out form of the case will not allow you to miss a call if the device is on the table. The back wall is slightly concave, so the sound from the ringing speaker will only amplify, reflecting from a flat surface.

Taking the phone in your hands, you immediately feel the volume rocker located on the right side, and you will find the power button, a place for which was found in the center of the upper edge. To fill the device with various accessories, you just need to easily pry the back cover and carefully separate it from the case.

Two slots for SIM-cards, located mirror-image relative to each other, will open for your attention, and a connector for a “flash drive" microSD format (media up to 32 GB supported) logically complements the picture. Just in case, we give instructions with a clear illustration of the correct landing of cards in the right places: http://www.htc.com/help/en/howto_iframe.aspx?id=188375&type=1&p_id=453.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated about this, but you can forget about the card or a second phone for calls placed under the back cover, like a nightmare. It is enough to reboot the device (“Fast boot” is turned on by default, so this procedure takes a matter of seconds) and, if necessary, enter PIN codes to fully enjoy the benefits of two SIM cards.

A special section of settings is dedicated to working with them. It is called “Network Manager”. With it, you can set your preferred operator, enter arbitrary names for each card (up to 5 characters so that the full name is guaranteed to be displayed in all menus), or disable one of them if necessary. In addition, the “Airplane” mode that deactivates all wireless connections is now duplicated in this menu.

Having delved into the settings, you can check the current data transfer settings, as well as start a manual search for available networks or enable data transfer in roaming, if the tariff option or package allows it. The cards will be named in the way that is convenient for you, but you need to keep in mind that Internet access at 3G speeds is available only in the first slot, and the second will allow you to communicate without restrictions in traditional ways. Of course, the replenishment in the camp of SIM-cards was reflected in the contents of the "Use" section, which contains information about data consumption and SMS accounting. Switching between cards, you can easily track the costs for each of them.

The tool for managing SIM-cards organically fit into the familiar design of the Sense interface, and all its richness and beauty are at your service. Excellent personalization options, coupled with access to the HTC Hub service, will allow you to choose exactly those design elements that you would like to see, and if you want, they can easily be changed to something fresher.

Even if you pay more attention to the phone, you don’t have to worry about the charge level until late in the evening. For example, in a test conducted, Desire V played YouTube videos for almost 4 hours, and the display brightness was maximum.

The integration of contacts from both SIM cards and connected accounts works like a clock, and if necessary, it’s easy to copy contacts to the desired account or transfer them from the memory of one card to another, deleting random duplicates at the same time. Of course, there is also the possibility of combining disparate information on one person into a single card that facilitates the search and sorting.

Along with services that work with a Google account, you have the potential to sync with your Microsoft account. It is enough to create an account on the portal http://outlook.com, how to correspond and schedule meetings will be possible using it directly from your smartphone, using standard applications.

Do not think that all the specifics of the device are limited to a single settings section. The familiar dialer with SmartDial support now contains not one, but two buttons to send a call, corresponding, respectively, for each of the SIM-cards. As soon as the choice is made, the second card will become inactive due to the use of a single radio module, but at the end of the conversation it will turn on immediately, without leaving you without communication for a second.

In addition, received and sent messages are marked with a small but informative icon informing which card corresponded. Thus, despite the presence of two slots in one device, its interface did not become confusing or inconvenient, and the operation algorithms are logical and simple.

You can find examples of photos here. The source of the images was a test sample, while the quality of images obtained using commercial samples promises to be more balanced.

The music player will appreciate the updated interface and support for Beats Audio. Only with it you will feel the full and rich sound of your favorite songs, and widgets on the lock screen and one of the desktops will allow you to control playback with a minimum of effort.

Attractiveness of Desire V is not only in the support of two SIM-cards. This is a functional and modern smartphone that will help in work and on vacation. You can listen to music, surf the Internet and watch a movie, and both of your numbers will be available wherever you are.
