Atlassian Office in San Francisco
A month ago, I attended the Atlassian Summit in San Francisco, an annual event for Atlassian customers and partners. I already wrote a report on the event , and promised to write a little about the Atlassian office, which everyone brought to see.
An excursion to the office took place at the end of the last day, so there were not too many people interested (about 20 people). But, it is worth noting that two “calls” to the office were arranged - in the afternoon and evening. I chose evening time so as not to miss anything interesting at the Summit itself. So there could well be more people who wanted it during the day.
In total, Atlassian has 3 offices - in Sydney, in San Francisco and Amsterdam. In appearance, the building does not stand out anything special and it is difficult to guess whose office is inside. Even a rooftop billboard advertises a completely different company :)

The office is located at the intersection of Harrison Street and 7th Street . Previously, the office was located elsewhere, 1.5 kilometers in the southwest, but in April of this year, Atlassian moved to a new and, of course, cooler office. Prior to this, the office has already undergone one move in 2008.

The spiderman also does not mind joining IT. The

entrance to the office is not equipped with light tunnels or transparent doors and looks rather modest.

But the visitors who entered the office were delighted that it was Friday, which means that the famous "beer trolley" was driving around the office, which met us at the entrance. The Beer Cart has suffered several reincarnations and in its current form is not just a cart, but a whole vehicle.

The Atlassian office is spacious and two-story. People are sitting in OpenSpace, which, frankly, worries me. But nobody seemed to complain about the difficulty of working in OpenSpace. I could not personally assess the noise of the office, because there were few people in the evening, and the few teams that were present made much less noise than visitors.

Jobs are mainly located around the central almost empty zone. In the central zone there are several cool chairs that were immediately occupied by visitors.

A chic staircase leads to the second floor, which is not only a staircase, but also an interesting place to relax and work. Workplaces are equipped with pillows and sockets. It is worth noting that this is not the only staircase to the second floor, but there are several more along the edges of the building, so that "sitting" on the stairs should not be disturbed by crowds of people going back and forth.

Top view of the stairs:

The design of the room is made in the fashionable style of “let’s leave these pipes that were here before us”, but rather quickly stop paying attention to them. People have enough personal space at the workplace, there are a lot of Aerons among the seats , and there are a lot of Macs among computers. Large monitors hang on the walls with some probably useful information that I was too shy to stare at.

Some, as you see, did not get Aeron-s:

The technical support team happily welcomes guests in the office:

There are many meeting rooms of various sizes in the building. And this, for sure, is one of the factors due to which people successfully work in OpenSpace - no one will hold rallies in your ear.

There are also such small meeting rooms for a couple of people:

I really liked the “reservation” system for meeting rooms assembled on the basis of iPad-s. The status of the meeting room is shown, right there you can book it I didn’t ask, but I suspect that statuses can be managed centrally.

Here and there regularly there are small places for relaxation, food and quiet conversations, all made in different styles.

There is an interesting (noticed only one) hanging chair:

A modest door with a small inscription hides a small shower room behind it:

Employees make out whoever

cares what: There are several small kitchens in the office where you can eat:

Long racking their brains on how the “beer trolley” climbs onto the 2nd floor, I figured out a secret - there are 2 of them :)

In one of the corners of the 2nd floor there was a “green corner” with a hammock and a bookcase (not visible in the photo)

But the support team didn’t have time to relax and the employees maintained their physical form right at the workplace

Nearby (that same support) there are several places to work while standing.

For one of the employees who jokingly dreamed of his small shop, the good associates built (while he was on a business trip) this same corner shop from the materials left after the move. Now he has a workplace there.

Sometimes you have to work in hazardous conditions. For this, branded helmets are stocked up:

But some guys need more serious protection at the workplace:

The company strongly encourages the movement of employees on bicycles. This year Atlassian was among the companies most friendly to cyclists according to the city. The building has a convenient bike parking and several "public" bicycles that any employee of the company can take. It’s very convenient that there are “public” bicycles with different frame sizes and you can choose your own one.

A rather large room is reserved for a relaxation room. There's a table tennis ...

... another small kitchen, where there is a bar with draft beer ...

... and game console with all sorts of "gadgets"

Nearby there is a small room for meetings and lectures, which is still not "brought to mind":

More After a bit of walking around the office, I thanked the organizers for the hospitality and went to the Atlassian Experts party, which was also interesting :) But I won’t write about it.
To summarize, this office does not have several cafeterias with different cuisines, there are no massage therapists (although there is a massage chair) and instead of offering a discount for a car they offer to ride a bicycle :) But it is clear that the office was made not just for people, but with them, and people are now very comfortable in this office.
