Meebo team will work on Google+ tools for publishers

Google has agreed with Meebo to acquire it. The transaction amount has not been officially disclosed, but previously it was reported that Google will pay about $ 100 million for a seven-year startup.

Meebo employees will join the Google+ team. The fate of existing Meebo products, including the Meebo Messenger messenger and the Meebo Bar social toolbar, has not yet been determined.

According to TechCrunch, the experience of the Meebo team will be used to create Google+ tools for publishers. It is not known whether this means that we should expect any new Google+ toolbar, but, apparently, the existing capabilities of the Meebo Bar will be integrated into G +.

Meebo initially began to gain momentum because it offered an easy way for users to communicate between the protocols of Yahoo, Google, Microsoft, AOL messengers and, subsequently, services such as Facebook.

The company experimented with its platform, eventually achieving some success with a toolbar that web publishers can add to their sites. This feature includes chat and a number of distribution options, as well as advertising.

About 100 million monthly active users (according to ComScore for December last year) could theoretically also serve as a new place to promote Google’s social features.
