Distributions, updates and errata for Oracle Linux are now available for free

Along with a certification statement for some of its RHEL 6 and Oracle Linux 6 applications, Oracle has announced that distributions, updates, and errata for Oracle Linux are now available free of charge , including for use in a production environment.

Oracle Linux is built from RHEL source code and is fully compatible with it. An important advantage over CentOS and Scientific Linux is the support from the hardware manufacturers and the release dates for updates that are released almost simultaneously with Red Hat.
Previously, to get updates quickly, you had to have a valid support contract, which cost $ 119 a year from Oracle or from $ 349 a year from Red Hat (2 sockets, with a limit on 1 guest system).

The public repository is available at the following link:

Wim Coekaerts, senior vice president of Linux and the virtualization platform for Oracle, described it this way:
The beauty is that if you want a completely updated system without support, use it, if you need support later, get a subscription. Simple, convenient, efficient.

However, do not forget about the features of renewing support contracts.
