3600 mAh battery experience for HTC Sensation smartphone
Introduction
This text is devoted to a detailed review of the extended battery for the still popular HTC Sensation smartphone, including details of online purchases, an overview of the package and the product itself, and, of course, a study of the battery life of the smartphone in different modes.
When I received a brand new HTS Sensation smartphone as a gift, I was amazed at its capabilities. Two high-frequency cores with a powerful video adapter easily rotated video (the most popular 1280x720 High 4.1), opened heavy PDF files almost without delay, loaded web pages with a complex structure. But all this power before the eyes devoured the battery. And if he lived in book mode and a bit of Wi-Fi Internet for two days, then a full-day trip out of town (a long road, GPS, photographing) could end with a brick in his pocket. And away from home.
Therefore, I thought about buying a more capacious battery that would allow me to do whatever you want all day without thinking about the remaining charge. A few days of surfing the net, as well as past experience led me to the site of Mugen-Power, a Chinese manufacturer of advanced smartphone batteries.
Immediately I want to note the reasonableness of the site. The user immediately sees a menu with a list of manufacturers of equipment, a list of models is displayed in a drop-down list. No need to look for anything - everything is immediately available. For each model, a table with available batteries is displayed containing the most requested information - capacity, cost, photo. User reviews, stock availability status are available. The purchase process is described in detail, payment is possible through PayPal. In general, everything has been done to quickly find the right model and buy it comfortably. Separately, I note free shipping. While one battery in the HTC branded store costs 1800r, plus home delivery 300r, from distant Hong Kong a more capacious battery will come for 1400r, including delivery to the post office.
However, the battery that came to me for a review was received in a much more surprising way. Mugen-Power sends free batteries to users who want to write an overview of their products. It is enough to contact the company staff - they will politely answer you, describe all the details and once again strike you with Asian generosity. As a result, I didn’t start trifling and asked for the most capacious battery for HTC Sensation at the moment - at 3600 mAh, according to the specifications. Delivery time from Hong Kong to the post office was about two weeks, not counting the time for preliminary correspondence and the search for parcels in the mail (lost in four walls). I note that the entire route of the parcel, from its arrival in Russia to delivery to the post office, is recorded on the Russian Post website.
At the end of the section, more about the battery. Link to the purchase pageHERE .
The site has photos and even a good video clip.
Due to the large capacity, the battery does not fit in the smartphone case. Therefore, the manufacturer attaches to the purchase a new back cover, characterized by a greater depth.

Battery
Supply and packaging

Packaging
The battery arrived in a thick paper bag with a sheet of brief information on it. In the package - a plastic box containing the battery itself, and an information sheet. The latter personally pleased me very much. It describes in detail how to charge the battery at first, in order to achieve maximum efficiency, contact information of the company. At the beginning and end of the text - thanks for the purchase. Yes, the cost of such a leaf is scanty, but the feeling of a company caring for its customer is much more expensive.
A plastic box consists of two halves, not fastened by anything, so you can open and close it without any consequences of appearance. Personally, I have been credited with the company for a long time, but another buyer may feel uncomfortable, knowing that before that someone could actively use his property. Otherwise, the packaging is very good: hard plastic, cardboard, polystyrene (or the name of the material that seals the entire assembly in this case) - all this ensures that the battery and the new cover will arrive in general and not broken.
Battery and back cover.

Side view.
The main characteristics of the battery are applied to it - capacity, voltage, manufacturer. In thickness, it naturally exceeds the standard battery by a factor of two. For this reason, a new back cover is required.
The cover is made entirely of plastic. The standard cover on the edge and in the center was reinforced with metal, here the structure is generally uniform. Therefore, the question of rigidity of the obtained structure is logical. Not only the cover itself, but also the smartphone. In the basic version, just the metallized back cover carries the main protection; in the version from Mugen-Power, the smartphone itself gives rigidity. The smartphone is based on an aluminum plate. On the one hand (let's call it “top”) there is a screen with a touch panel, on the other (“back”) there are two halves of the motherboard. All system logic is covered by a rigid panel made of plastic. The battery is inserted into it. Thus, even without a branded back cover, the design should retain sufficient rigidity even with a more massive battery.
Back to the study of the new cover. It consists of three parts: a “bathtub” covering the entire smartphone and battery, a full-width panel with openings for the camera and LEDs, a thin rim around the perimeter of the “bathtub”, which appears just at the ends of the device. At the first inspection, the poor build quality caught my eye. The panel with holes was glued crookedly - on one side it was adjacent to the "bathtub" closely, on the other hand, a slit was a millimeter and a half. The panel also protruded slightly above the surface of the “bathtub”. At the junction of the rim with the lid, a strong roughness is clearly felt, scratching the fingers. This is a real breakdown! It is very strange to see this on a technological device from a large company.
As the material for the lid, only plastic is used. It looks like Soft Touch, but not of the highest quality. In my specimen, the roughness was uneven - on the one hand, the hand feels irregularities, as if there was some kind of dry dirt on the surface. Moreover, after a couple of weeks of use, I noticed that the rough coating began to peel off. Under it was found a smooth, even slippery, plastic of dark gray color.

A smartphone with a battery installed
At the same time, the cover is quite thin and light. As on the corporate cover, antennas are mounted in it, but the electrically conductive material is different here, cheaper, obviously not copper.
On the front side is the speaker grille. On the standard cover, the grill is attached on the inside, on the new - on the outside. Here it is such a thin lattice plate, weakly glued in a pair of dots. It is easily pushed in the center inward, hanging a little in its place. I will not be surprised if, when carrying the device in your pocket, it will fly off quickly enough. In general, this is another unpleasant discovery.
The power button and volume rocker are integrated into the back cover. They are very tight, sitting tight. The buttons are flat and slightly wider than usual, at the places of pressing on them a large and sharp pimple is placed. Apparently, this was done to facilitate the touch buttons, in reality, these growths cling to clothes and irritate the finger.

Lid Height Comparison
End the description of the cover by installing it on your smartphone. To my surprise, the phone got into the cover very tightly, no backlash. Nothing creaks anywhere, the body of the smartphone and the cover are felt as one. Even more surprisingly, the thicker cover makes holding the phone much more comfortable. Wide, slightly beveled sides fit perfectly under the fingers, the smartphone does not slip in the palm of your hand. At the same time, the total weight has changed imperceptibly - a heavier battery is adjacent to a better lid.
The cover is very tightly attached to the body of the smartphone. Dust practically does not get under it, much less than when using a standard cover.
The result of the cover: the selected materials, their processing and assembly - below average. But the form is very good. It preserves the general features of the smartphone, contributes to the comfort of use.
Antennas

Inside view
Radio antennas, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS are mounted on the cover. Compared to the standard cover, the new one reduces the sensitivity of the device. In general, in good conditions the sensitivity practically does not decrease, but when the situation worsens, the device shows a noticeably weaker signal level.
So, in places of uncertain coverage of the cellular network, the device produces noise in dynamics, the signal indicator suddenly sags to two divisions (on a standard cover, it did not fall below three in such places). The Wi-Fi module finds fewer networks, skipping those with a weak signal. With a base cover, you could even connect to these networks. A device with a new cover catches a GPS signal worse: fewer satellites are visible, the time for determining coordinates under equal conditions is more than one and a half to two. The device with a new cover spends more time searching for visible satellites.
Another test for WiFi power is the neighboring open network in the house. With a new cover, the device connected to it once, showed a minimum signal level. But it was worth putting a full-time cover - the level has become almost maximum always.
Offline work
The main section, which describes what is why you have to put up with all the problems of the new cover. This is a battery. Its capacity is 3600 mAh, which is more than double the standard battery. There was no certainty that the battery really had such a capacity. So the device, after pumping up the battery according to the scenario recommended by the company, was tested in different modes. The given numbers are quite accurate, checked twice. There is a discrepancy in values, within 10 percent.
A full charge of the increased battery occurs in 4 hours when using the HTC branded charger 1A.
The easiest mode is to read a book from the screen. Basic battery - 10 hours, Extended - 23.
Watching video 1280x720 High Profile 4.0 with hardware acceleration: 6 hours 20 minutes versus 14.
Intensive web surfing via WiFi (5 meters from the access point in a straight line): 4 hours 15 minutes versus 9 hours.
Camera. The camera is turned on, pictures are taken one at a time. 3 hours versus 6 with a little.
Real use. For a day, several calls a day, an hour and a half reading a book and WiFi. The radio module turns off at 9 o’clock at night. In this mode, the device with the extended battery worked for exactly 7 and a half days. The basic battery in this mode was enough for about three days with a small one.
The result of the battery - the actual battery capacity is very close to the declared 3600. As a result of calculations of energy consumption, I got 3400-3500 mA.
Conclusion
I walked with this battery for a month, counting from the day it was received in the mail. This is a useful thing that allows you to reveal all the capabilities of a smartphone - you can do anything during the day without worrying about the remaining charge. It’s extremely difficult to put a battery in a day. On the other hand, the operation of wireless interfaces suffers. Moreover, the new cover does not differ in the quality of assembly and materials used.
As a result, for use in urban conditions, when the device can be recharged at least once a day, it is better to stop on an expanded 1950 mAh battery that fits in a standard case. But for long trips, where you still will not use the connection anyway - a huge 3600 battery is perfect.
