For several years now, Google has been providing users with Zeitgeist ratings. From today on googlezeitgeist.com/ru you can learn who and what interested users in 50 countries in 2011. The site has fast-growing requests for various categories and detailed infographics. What do we mean when we talk about “fast-growing requests”? These are the search queries that, as a percentage, showed the highest growth compared to last year. We also prepared a review video that includes all the major world events of the year.

It turned out that users all over the world are united by the expectation of Friday - the new YouTube star Rebecca Black with the song Fridaybecame the absolute leader in the ranking immediately in 3 categories. Google also searched for cakes and diets, as well as the latest news about Pippa Middleton and Kim Kardashian. At the same time, the search engine was used to obtain relevant information about the events in Libya and Egypt and, of course, about local political events. And the request 東京 電力 (translated from Japanese - “TEPCO” - the operator of the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant) was the first request written not in Latin and entered the world list of the fastest growing requests.

A fully international rating looks like this:

1. rebecca black
2. google +
3. ryan dunn
4. casey anthony
5. battlefield 3
6. iphone 5
7. adele

What were the most searched for users in Russia in 2011? The fastest growing requests of this year began to watch movies online - in the first place, the project +100500 - in the second, and the VKontakte social network - in the third. The Russians were also interested in group discount services - biglion was in fifth place, and the Russian auto industry with a fret grant request took the sixth line in the ranking of the fastest growing requests for the year.

The fastest growing requests of Russians:
  1. watch movies online

  3. vkontakte
  4. ipad 2
  5. biglion

In the “top person” category, Steve Jobs leads the search, followed by Alexei Navalny, and the American actress and singer Selena Gomez closes the top three. Russian users also searched for information about the singers Elena Vaenga, Maxim and Nyusha, as well as about the hip-hop artist Guf.

In addition to such obvious categories as “the fastest growing requests”, “top person” of the year and “purchase of the year”, we selected requests in the original categories, for example, “how ...” of the year and “favorite animals”.

It turned out that in search of the necessary information, the Russians did not forget about eternal values - food and kindness. For example, the query "how ..." compatriots continued to salt the mushrooms with words (1st place) and become kinder (6th place).

By the way, about eternal values, or rather, about music. At our request, Noize MC recorded a song about trends and its relationship to them. The video features Russian requests in 2011.

Detailed ratings of requests from Russians, as well as residents of another 49 countries, can be found on googlezeitgeist.com/

PS: The rating includes results up to and including November 30. For example, the results of the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation did not fall into it. We analyzed the data of search queries on this topic separately and found out that over the past 30 days it was this topic that interested users from Russia more than anything else. In Search Statisticsthe “election” query across Russia began to grow from December 3 and became overly popular (that is, grew by more than 5000%) on December 4. The request "rally" grew, starting from December 4, and became overpopulated in the Moscow region and St. Petersburg from December 9-10.
