Gingerbread occupies 50.51% of the Android smartphone market

Google’s Android platform is not developing fast fast, but very fast. One version replaces another, and with each new release, this mobile OS is becoming more perfect. True, mobile device manufacturers do not always keep up with the times, updating the software of their Android devices to the latest versions. It often happens that the latest devices come out with not the most “fresh” operating system. Actually, usage statistics for Android OS versions can be seen in the sequel.

Six versions of this mobile operating system (Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich) are currently “living” on various mobile devices. Gingerbread is still the leader, occupying about 50% of the entire Android smartphone market. In statistics, we are talking specifically about smartphones, tablets with Honeycomb have not yet counted. In general, so far, each device with Gingerbread has one device with an older version of the OS.

As for Ice Cream Sandwich, this OS is too "fresh" to manage to take its rightful place in the market of Android-systems. But Froyo still holds about 35.3% of the market, plus Eclair owns another 9.6%. And yes, devices with the first versions of Google’s mobile OS, including Donut and Cupcake, are still alive. Some of these OS versions are installed not only on mobile phones, here they are already a rarity, but, for example, on smartbooks, various mini-computers, and TVs also could not do without Google OSes. But on such devices, the operating system cannot be updated, or its update is too difficult for the average person, not a geek.

Experts believe that soon the situation should change, and Ice Cream Sandwich will gradually increase in popularity. The same applies to the previous version, Gingerbread, which will gradually “grab” market share from Froyo. The only question is how quickly mobile device manufacturers and software developers can update the platform.
