LibreOffice development started for web, Android and iOS
The Document Foundation at the last LibreOffice Conference announced the start of development of an Internet version of the office suite LibreOffice. The video of the prototype can be viewed at this link .
The online version of LibreOffice is based on the GTK + framework and canvas from HTML5. It was developed by Novell employee Michael Mixes on the Broadway GTK + Alex Larson of RedHat.
In addition, LibreOffice will be ported to Android and iOS. The Finnish developer Thor Lillqvist of Novell, known for porting GIMP to Windows, will do this.
The goal of porting LibreOffice to Android and iOS will be to use the office suite on tablets, and ultimately on smartphones. Work on the user interface has not yet begun, but most of the code is already compiled.
It is expected that these two projects will be ready for end users by the end of 2012 or early 2013.
The Document Foundation also revealed that 500,000 computers, mostly Windows, have been moved from OpenOffice to LibreOffice in government offices in France. which instantly increased the number of Windows systems with LibreOffice by 5%.
