Full-size paper model car Ford Mustang

New York artist Jonathan Brand conceived the unthinkable: he decided to combine his two hobbies - working with paper and fussing with "classic" cars like the 1969 Ford Mustang.

More precisely, he decided to assemble a 1969 Ford Mustang entirely from paper. Not only the external frame, but also each individual internal part, including the motor, wheels, doors, seats and other parts.

Work began with a detailed three-dimensional drawing on a computer. Then Jonathan used a large-format printer to print “layers” of paper, which he first carefully cut out, then numbered and gradually glued PVA glue to one another. Thus, the artist created a very complex real model of each individual part from seemingly “two-dimensional” paper prints.

The project page on Jonathan’s website is entitled “One Piece at a Time”, borrowed from Johnny Cash’s song about the Detroit Cadillac assembly line worker who wanted to get one of the cars he’s assembling once, and decided to steal the Cadillac in parts, collecting it already outside the factory.

Brand already has a body, steering wheel, seats, engine, wheels with tires, doors and all small things. At the same time, the detailing is simply amazing - how many layers have he glued together ?! I look forward to the completion of this mega-project.
