The dream of getting into the states - how it was realized ...

    Hi

At the request of the Khabrovsk citizens I will tell you how I got to the states. (Phoenix, Arizona)

Who cares, please, under the cat…

It all started back in the 1999th year. Then I was only in the 4th year at the Chisinau Polytechnic. Learning was easy, programming all the more, little by little worked as a laboratory assistant at the Department of Automation and Informatics, because of this there was free access to two classes with computers, where we spent many nights with friend Duke Nukem. In January 1999 he got married, he could not spend so much time at the department, he had to support his family. On the advice of his wife, I begin to look for work. Oddly enough, he found it very quickly, he began to teach C ++ / C ++ Builder to adults. And here I couldn’t understand why they, who were already over 25 (they were certainly younger, but mostly after 25) needed C ++. I began to research this issue and it turned out that everyone is learning C ++ since in the states it is very much asked and everyone wants to go there, or through relatives, or on the green card. After that, I somehow felt uneasy, that is, how, they have no experience and want to leave, but I didn’t even know about it, at first I was envious, but somehow everything grew together, I got used to this idea and more did not bother.

After 4 months of work as a teacher, one of the students asks if I want to change jobs and go to the cardboard factory and work as a programmer there. The salary was not small, I immediately agreed. Of course, I just couldn’t work as a programmer there, I had to, and they pulled the network cable, set up the accounting department, change the wallpaper on computers, etc. But there was one plus, there was free access to the Internet and sometimes free time when I managed to look for vacancies and send resumes. It was at this stage that a reversal of events occurred, which I do not remember, it turns out, I sent a resume to a certain company and forgot about it, but it was she who later appeared on the horizon and changed my whole life, but so far I did not know and just did own business.

After completing my diploma in May 2000, one of my friends who had graduated from the same department a year earlier asked if I was not willing to go to another company more seriously and to say salary, from which I almost fell. For any occasion, I go to the factory and say that I want to leave. Everyone panicked at once - What? Why? Maybe something does not like, etc. Well, I said that they say so and so, I want a bigger salary and said the amount, after which the director turned pale and said “that the deputy director doesn’t get that amount,” so what can I do, I’m writing a letter of resignation and I’m leaving for another company.

It turned out to be not so smooth. The main client was from England, and to begin with, he came to us to manage the project and explain the tasks, and I have English at the level of C ++, I studied French for 10 years. It’s good that I wasn’t alone, and the company organized English courses for us. The sense of this was not enough, BUT after 2 weeks of work, the same company appears where I sent the resume (the Moldovan company for finding programmers for Slovenia) and said that my resume was selected and I’ll probably go to Slovenia in 1-2 months . To say that I was glad is to say nothing. As I drove back to the hostel, where my wife and I lived, I do not even remember. Just flew on the wings of happiness.

My wife and I began to think about how to be, since she was already pregnant and in her last year at the Polytechnic. They decided that I would go for half a year, save up to about $ 5,000, (that is how much the apartments in Chisinau cost in the year 2000), come back, buy an apartment and live on together happily. Immediately I enter English courses.

After that, it remains to wait for the very day to come when they call me, and I will go to Slovenia. At this time, a son is born, and a month later a recruiter calls me, but an in-person interview. Everything went smoothly, I didn’t ask any questions on C ++ and SQL, just asked if I know well and that’s it. To this day, I am amazed at such confidence.

A month later, I was already in Slovenia, the boss turned out to be an excellent person, showed the company, gave me time to learn, and then ordered me to do some kind of task and slowly merge with the team. Everything went exactly as my wife and I planned. Since I didn’t know Slovenian, I continued to study English, it helped a lot in the future. After six months I say that to the boss, that I have to go back, after which he was almost dumbfounded, “What? "Nothing of the kind, I want you to stay, and we will bring the whole family here." Honestly, I did not expect this, then I heard that there were rumors about me that I was "an abnormal Russian who knows everything and can do everything that is needed very quickly." I had to call home and talk with my wife what to do next. We decide that he and his son will also come here. After 2 months, we are all driving together on the first car purchased (yeah, instead of an apartment?) back to Slovenia. But there was little happiness, after the salary expenses there was practically no choice. So we lived for about a year, after which the salary was increased, but still not enough. Something needs to be done, and just one of my friends tells me about the siterentacoder.com and how he makes money there. The decision was made automatically, and I begin to earn extra money on this site. At first he took any projects, practically for a penny, created an image. Six months later, I already filtered projects by cost and began to earn more than my main job. People at the company began to suspect something was wrong, my clothing style changed, changed my 3rd car, something was wrong here.

And here again I find some project for one American. Nothing so strange, the project, like everyone else. After a month of working on it, they ask me if I want to move to America, become a partner and work for myself with them. Again, the unexpected turn of events, and again just when needed, because someone at the company found my profile on rentacoder-e and then the questions began.

I turn to serious negotiations with the Americans, and we make the first attempt to get a tourist visa for the whole family, this was in January 2006. We’ll fly to Moldova at the American Embassy, where after an interview we are refused. The American is very angry and says that he will begin to apply for a work visa. Somewhere in the beginning of October I receive a letter from an American saying that his lawyer had obtained working permission for me. I take a vacation, pack all our things and go back to Moldova, go through an interview and get a work visa for me and an accompanying visa for family members. October 26th, we are already in Arizona, where I work hard on the project with the Americans. After 6 months, when the project is almost ready to start selling, none of us had any sales experience. Sales did not go, there was no money in the company, I didn’t receive salaries, it’s good that there were some savings from Slovenia. In January 2008, the company fell apart, after which there was a choice either to go back to Moldova or to look for another job here. Contacting another American, with whom he also worked through rentacoder, he is happy to take me to his place, where I work today. Life has improved, my son is professionally engaged in tennis, I also practice a little.

I work at home, I have a free schedule, the main thing is to take the projects on time. We visit our parents every 2 years. Wife graduates from a nurse. This year, the wife won the green lottery, and received permanent residence. Otherwise, I would have to wait another 4 years when I get through a company based on EB-3. (long story, why not EB2)

That's how we live together in our own house, which we bought 9 years later from the original plan. Only good relations remained with the Slovenian company, that conflict of interest was settled, and after that everything fell into place, when we go to Europe I always visit my boss and other friends who stayed there.

Youth advice, work quickly and efficiently, the time will come when they will notice you and then everyone, including you, will be fine.

    Good luck
