The Japanese created a self-learning robot

In general, self-learning robots have been created before, but the authors of this project claim that their “human iron friend” has advanced artificial intelligence and can “think” almost like a person. Specialists from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, the Hasegawa Group, worked on the project. The creators of the robot used the SOINN technology (Self-Organizing Incremental Neural Network), which, according to the development team, allows the robot to learn, and quite successfully.
In one of the experiments, the machine had to solve a certain problem, independently deciding what actions must be performed to solve the problem, and in what order. And the task was quite difficult, as for a robot: to fill a glass with water, cool the water, serve this “cocktail” to a person. The robot had to do all this, making decisions based on the current situation and the available tools.
The first stage, filling the glass with liquid, the robot completed quite quickly. Then he needed to cool the liquid by throwing a piece of ice into a glass. To do this, he had to “understand” that both of his manipulators were busy, and he could take ice only if he put an empty bottle. And this stage was a successful robot.
By the way, the very SOINN technology allows the robot to receive information not only regarding its environment, but also from the Web. Thus, experts say, the device learns faster and becomes “smarter”. In addition, the robot can “ask for advice” from its colleagues - such a scheme does not work yet, since there are no analogues of the robot yet, but earlier this idea was received positively. It uses a robot and its own experience to solve current problems.
