Radio project and how to deal with it

Hello, Habr and its inhabitants.
What prompted me to write this post? First of all, the deplorable state of some radio projects. If more precisely: mistakes that can be learned from the example of others.
So, we shake on a mustache, maybe you will come in handy in life.

In my lifetime I have seen three radio projects. It all started in about the same way: “And let's make a radio, because we have something to tell people about, and we know how to organize it.” Well, let's organize.

In the teams, in all three cases, there were coders-programmers with hands growing from the right place. But with a different attitude to life. As it turned out later - this is also important. The main thing: be patient, preferably more, because it’s still awesome, how useful.
So, these same programmers easily set up the server for the radio, picked up the necessary software, formats, settings, and other necessary food. Of course not in one evening. The setup took different amounts of time on different projects (which is not surprising).

The information on the network about how-where-when-who can help you set up the server is the sea. Although I think you yourself will cope with this task.
As it turned out, the standard sound card (in 70% of DJs and ryzhey) was suitable for medium-quality broadcasts with the basic stream settings in the SAM Broadcaster program with the following parameters: High Quality (high quality) and 128kb / s 44.1kHz, stereo format.

The quality of microphones and headsets here is quietly omitted, since it (quality) left much to be desired. Although this is interesting: sometimes the usual, it would seem, the cheapest microphone (hereinafter: mick) surpassed the more expensive and, at first glance, more serious model in sound quality.

So, after testing the servers and choosing the optimal settings for each DJ (with equipment acceptable for this), two new questions appeared in line:
  • How to choose equipment for reasonable money?
  • How and where to create an information page?

Any technician can tell you the answer to the first question. Or at least a person versed in physics. All the tips will help, from small to large: starting from the “winding a long wire into a ring” technique to the “buy an old, but time-tested sound recorder” technique. In general - the flag in your hands, it is purely individual.

But the second question can be solved on their own, without involving the already tired of setting up the server and communicating with DJs, a programmer and a technician. How? Pens, your own. First, decide what you need: as soon as possible to express yourself on the network or show the world your professionalism and ambition?
Choosing the first - turn to social networks. Groups, communities, accounts - your support and support. Yes, and do not forget to compose a few words about yourself and about the project, choose a name if your hands have not reached this point.
Choosing the second - just do not forget to work on the essay, and also stock up on ideas, a piece of paper, a pencil and smart designers in addition. And the layout designer, too, yes! Do not be afraid to use site engines and redraw templates. Here you will again need the proger and the technician who had already rested by that time. Developed a concept, pulled the idea by the tail - go! Draw, work, rivet texts and shine with ideas.

Happened?
Not tired?
We are going further.

So, we have put together a team at the moment: a programmer, a technician, a desinger, and the engine of the entire project - little that can do, except for establishing contacts and bouncing on the spot - the manager. Someone is missing ... oh, they forgot the DJ, darling. Although each of the above can become a DJ, it’s better to recruit a couple of three of them to the state.

“How to dial? Where? Well, when will we air it already? ”
Do not worry. For the first test broadcasts, an already assembled team is suitable. And after that you have to stock up on additional personnel. How? The same pens, and the same social networks will help you. Groups, communities, accounts - your support and support (for those who are in the tank). Do not give up this opportunity. So again, write the text. Now about the set of DJs. We spread it on the net and like fishing - we are waiting for prey. In the meantime, we are waiting, we are working on a plan of listening, I’ll tell you the right thing!
Choose 4-5 tasks for a beginner: diction, reading aloud, reaction, awareness, and imagination. Just do not forget to go yourself, otherwise it can turn out very ugly. Choose-made up? Well done, and now finally decide who will listen and where. In all cases, we used the “live method” of communication in the notorious Skype program.

Tip 1: listen with the whole team - it will turn out more objective. How many times tried to create commissions, as many times faced with uncertainty and errors.

Tip 2: Do not be too lazy to create a questionnaire for applications. So filtering out applications will be easier and save much more time.

Well, we have staffed. Question: Who is in charge of your team?
Do not know? So soon to decide!
Do you have democracy? From personal experience I’ll say: you will not go far on it.

The main, preferably active and serious person at the post is required. This is the key to success.
Less problems, clashes and incomprehensible conversations. Have outlined a plan - approved - work.

Tip: Do not let the proger and / or equipment rest. Depending on the character, this can turn into big scandals. And you simply will be left without technical support. Download them with your work: Configuring equipment for beginners, monitoring the server, site and other technical stuff. And they can also track the base of tracks. The main thing is not to give concessions.

Approve the grid immediately, its observance is mandatory. No confusion is another key to success. Keep an archive of topics on the air and keep track of information on the air. To do this, you can enter the broadcast plan: lecture information, tracks and a list of sample questions for discussion with listeners.
A tedious thing, but effective. I check the plans myself for about two years. Many DJs twist and resist, but get used to it. And for beginners, this is even calmer and you will be sure that they are ready.

But these are all flowers.
As a witness, I can easily say without objectivity anywhere.
The most difficult part in building a project is team building. People quarrel over trifles. Different coalitions and conspiracies are formed. Unsure of a person - we wave his hand, you yourself will be more whole.

And, perhaps, the post is long and tedious. But this is only the beginning.
Think carefully: do you need to get stuck in this business?
Then oh, how frustrating it is to drop projects. No mistakes - nowhere, but sometimes they are difficult to fix.

In general, good luck in all your endeavors!
