Nokia N950 (aka Nokia N9 Devkit)

In this post I will try to collect everything that is more or less reliably currently known about the Nokia N950. Fortunately, after the announcement of N9 and the appearance of official information, the percentage of rumors among this information will be minimal.

So, the confirmed appearance of the N950:

And a few more photos from our Prague friends : The official names are N9 Devkit and N950 . The main differences between the N950 and N9:

    • N950 is not a commercial piece of hardware intended only for developers, and there is no guarantee whatsoever about software / hardware.
    • In general, iron is almost identical to N9
    • The N950 is slightly larger in size and has an aluminum body (the N9 has polycarbonate)
    • N950 has a retractable clave (N9 - touchscreen only)
    • The N950 has a 4-inch TFT screen (the N9 has a 3.9-inch AMOLED)
    • The cameras are slightly different (but both give 8MP, Calr Zeiss glasses on the N9)
    • The location of the front camera is different (in different angles)
    • N950 only supports Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (N9 - Bluetooth 4.0)
    • NFC (Near Field Communcations) is supported only by N9
    • The N9 has a slightly more sensitive compass and light sensor
    • The N950 has a 1320mAh battery, the N9 has a 1450mAh

The device will be distributed among open-source developers of MeeGo (only 250 pieces are allocated) and for commercial developers through the Nokia Developer Network programs (like Nokia Developer Launchpad ) (the quantity is unknown). The total number of devices released is not yet known.

Wonderful video quality with the N950:

Software is not Maemo, nor is MeeGo in its purest form. This is a merger of the latest version of Maemo and MeeGo - a lot in common, but also a lot of new things. A complete list of package differences can be viewed here - very clearly: harmattan-dev.nokia.com/unstable/beta/Fremantle_Update7_vs_Harmattan_Beta_content_comparison.html

List of packages for the assembly used on the N9 / N950:
    build.meego.com/project/packages?pro=? MeeGo% 3A1.2% 3Aoss

The installation system remains apt / deb, but MeeGo repositories are also supported (I wonder how this is implemented, but this is what I was assured of). Startup system - upstart. The rest of the details regarding the differences will come later, as information becomes available.

By the way, the assembly of MeeGo (possibly in the form in which it now stands on the N9) will appear on June 22 as a separate release for the N900 called “Summer Release”.

The start date for deliveries to the N950 developers is unknown, but the deadline for submitting a request for a device according to the MeeGo program is June 28. So what can be expected from the beginning of July.
