CUPP Computing Introduces Hybrid Netbook
Hybrid in the sense that this laptop, called PunkThis, can work in two modes: economical, which is ensured by the work of the ARM-based platform, and productive, based on the x86 architecture. The idea is really good - because we rarely use our laptops to 100%. And it becomes very unpleasant when, having decided to read the news or send some e-mails, we see that the laptop battery is quickly discharged. And so, you can use a low-power mode of operation, and surf, surf, surf. Well, or chat, chat, chat.
Dual operation is ensured through the use of a special ARM-module, which is installed in place of a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive. The configuration of the module is just right for surfing and performing some office tasks: TI DM3730 1.0GHz A8 processor, plus 512 MB of RAM, Mini PCIe SSD. SSD is used instead of the missing hard drive, and such a system works quite well, judging by the reviews of eyewitnesses. Oh yes, the module is also equipped with 5 USB ports, a Wi-Fi module and microSD card slots. One slot is occupied by a card with Android OS system files, the other is used as usual.
This netbook was unveiled at Computex 2011 in Taipei. By the way, low-power mode is performed using Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), but the usual mode of operation is with Windows 7.
The decision, of course, is rather unusual, but it may well be that such a scheme of work will be spread. Yes, the cost of such a netbook (it is not entirely clear whether this is the cost of the module, or the entire system) will be about $ 200, and the solution will be released to the market in a couple of months.
