Firefox 4 has been downloaded over 100 million times

In just a month, the Firefox 4 distribution was downloaded over 100 million times, which was announced by browser developers at the end of last week. On Sunday evening, the number of downloads was 103 million. In general, this is an excellent indicator, but still, the Mozilla browser does not manage to get an additional share in the browser market. Until a competitor like Google Chrome appeared, Firefox's popularity grew every month, but now Firefox’s market share is not increasing or decreasing. True, the popularity of Firefox 4 is growing, for example, as of April 24, the share of the new version increased from 7.3% (beginning of the month) to 8%, but this does not change the overall share of Firefox in the browser market - about 30%.

Now the most popular browser versions are Internet Explorer 8, with 29.99%, followed by Firefox 3.6 with 24.43%, then Google Chrome 10 with 15.35%. By the way, the popularity of the new version of Internet Explorer 9 is slowly but surely growing, the share of which has grown to 3% - the slow popularity growth of this browser is most likely due to restrictions in the version of Windows where this browser can work. It is not installed in Windows XP, an OS that is still very popular.

But Firefox 4 works on both Linux and Mac OS, which, of course, increases the potential audience of the browser. Let me remind you that Firefox 4 was released on March 22, 2011 (in fact, the final release could be downloaded a day earlier, but officially Firefox 4 was released on March 22). In general, the version is really quite successful, although it could not do without some problems.

Statistics for browsers other than Mozilla was provided by StatCounter, as for data from Net Applications , here the statistics are slightly different. But Net Applications has data on Opera, Safari and other browsers.
