Lingvo Cup To Begin Next Week

On April 19, registration for the fourth online translation championship with the Lingvo Cup dictionary, which is run by our company, ends.
Schoolchildren over 16 years old, students of all forms of education, as well as graduate students who received a diploma no earlier than 2009, from Russia and other countries can take part in the competition.
The tournament will be held in 2 stages: April 20-21 and May 19, 2011. In the first round, the finalists of the "Cup" will be determined, the second will reveal the champion and another 29 winners who have demonstrated the most outstanding results.
The tournament goes like this: on the appointed day and time, participants go to their personal account on the website www.kubok.lingvo.ruand in 40 minutes, the text is printed in 900 characters. You can choose from texts in several languages - English, French, German and Spanish (the latter was added only this year). The subject of texts is the broadest. In the English section, these are “Society and Politics”, “History and Economics”, “Mathematics and Physics” and “IT”. For other languages, the last two topics are replaced by another - "Natural Sciences". When translating, participants can use the special trial version of the ABBYY Lingvo x3 dictionary.
Traditionally, the winners are determined by the jury, which includes the heads of the departments of foreign languages and leading teachers of Moscow State University. Lomonosov Moscow State Institute of International Relations, RUDN University and the Higher School of Economics, permanent chairman of the jury - Director of the Department of Linguistic Products ABBYY Alexander Rylov.
Winners are expected not only fame and honor, but also valuable prizes and gifts. The owner of the Lingvo Cup 2011 will have the opportunity to spend two weeks in the country of the language being studied - the UK, Germany, France or Spain. The solemn presentation of the Lingvo Cup 2011 and prizes will be held in June 2011.
We started this project in 2008, a little more than two thousand people from 17 countries participated in the very first “Cup”. Over three years, the number of participants has more than doubled - in 2010, 4,600 young people from 30 countries “fought” for the cup, including Russia, the USA, Canada, Israel, South Korea, the CIS countries and Europe. In our country alone, the championship covered more than 300 cities.
