Google Docs removes file upload size limit

In early January, Google without much PR announced a new feature - the ability to upload and play videos directly in Google Docs . Thus, now, in addition to documents and presentations, you can freely upload video files there.

A pretty decent list of video formats is supported:
    • WebM files (Vp8 video codec, Vorbis audio codec).
    • MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files (h264 and mpeg4 video codecs, AAC audio codec).
    • AVI (used in most cameras; MJPEG video codec, PCM audio codec).
    • MPEGPS (MPEG2 video codec, MP2 audio codec).
    • WMV
    • FLV (Adobe: FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio codec).

Ultimately, after uploading, the file is played like any video uploaded to YouTube. But the whole tsimes of the latest update is different. I was interested in how it could be that Google launches video support in Google docs with a limit of 100 MB upload size set by itself. From the link above, you can find the following information: "The size of the downloaded files should not exceed 1 GB." From this, I concluded that the restriction on other files might have been removed. After some checks, my assumption was confirmed. Google Docs with an appetite accepted the 150mb archive and uploaded it without any problems.

On the one hand, this news made me very happy, as I have repeatedly used the Google Docs server to transfer large files for work. When the files were larger than 100mb, I had to resort to the services of Narod Disk , DropBox and other services. Now, when the restriction is removed, the files can be duplicated and uploaded to the Google server.

On the other hand, I don’t really want everyone to start using it all over the place for pouring warez and the like. Apparently, this is why this news did not receive much publicity. Apparently, Google decided that those who use Google Docs on an ongoing basis will discover the innovation, and there it will already be visible how to proceed and whether to make loud announcements. Be that as it may, it seems to me that lifting the restriction will please many.
