Pixel Qi has found a manufacturer of displays
Good news for those who follow the fate of the screens of electronic books and their manufacturers.
There is such a hybrid display 3Qi company Pixel Qi . It is almost E-ink (you can read it with the backlight turned off due to the rear mirror) and almost LCD (the backlight turned on turns the screen into a regular laptop).
The following photo shows a netbook with a 3Qi display installed, the backlight is off .

Until now, the Pixel Qi screens were just a proof-of-concept. Now, as fcenter.ru reported, Pixel Qi has found a display manufacturer.
Pixel Qi displays are struggling to make their way to the market. But they break through it, and that’s good. The company was established in January 2008, after the departure of the chief technologist of the nonprofit organization OLPC Mary Lou Jepsen in "free swimming". 3Qi displays are derived from the first generation of displays for "student" laptops, the main feature of which was the ability to work in monochrome mode in direct sunlight. This made it possible not only to work comfortably in bright external lighting, but also to save battery power, because the display backlight was excluded from the “food chain” of batteries.
Pixel Qi could celebrate its first success this year. One of Taiwanese manufacturers began producing small quantities of 10.1-inch screens of the company. Screens are intended for self-replacement of regular panels in a number of laptop models, but their price is quite high - $ 275. In addition, the batch of screens is obviously small, because the first tablet on such a panel, the Indian “Adam” company Notion Ink was sold out in no time. Now only models with a conventional LCD are available for ordering. By the way, a model with a 3Qi screen is more expensive than a model with a regular screen by about $ 200, all other things being equal. Innovation is not cheap.
Fortunately, Pixel Qi managed to convince CPT (Chunghwa Picture Tubes), one of the world's largest manufacturer of small-format panels, that its displays were promising. According to the head of the company, in his online diary, the negotiations that began in the summer turned into a partnership agreement in the fall. At CES 2011, partners will show a 7-inch 3Qi panel with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels, and during 2011 two more new screen sizes will be introduced. First of all, a small format for smartphones.
Mass production of 7-inch screens is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2011. Pixel Qi's cost-effective transreflective displays will be installed in tablets and e-books. In addition to reflective monochrome mode without backlight, 3Qi displays can work in normal color mode with backlight. The possibility of hybrid modes will allow you to read books by the pool on the same device during the day and watch movies before bedtime.

I do not like the author - minus the author. But due to the fact that the habrausers put + only the post, and the habrabiddle puts it in karma (+1 against -15 habrabiddle already), I will share the last post about upgrading the laptop video card (while karma allows more) and there will be no more my posts . Published will be deleted. Sorry, but this attitude is boring.
