Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) on the tablet and Google Maps 5.0

    Last night, at a D: Dive into Mobile conference in San Francisco, Andy Rubin, who is responsible for Android at Google, demonstrated a prototype tablet manufactured by Motorola with Android 3.0 on board, as well as a new version of the application for mobile devices - Google Maps 5.0.

    The tablet has the ability for video chat, a processor from NVIDIA, a “dual core 3D processor”, but the physical characteristics are not specified. As the journalists noted, the new version is very different from what is currently on the market - 3.0 although it has a familiar icon grid on its screen, but the applications look more desktop and there are no traditional Android buttons. The release of this kit on the market is expected in 2011.

    As for Google Maps 5.0, the main innovations are vector renderingcards and the ability to cache for work in off-line . It is expected that it will be possible to pre-route and cache it, but to reroute the route you still need an Internet connection. also expanded multi-touch gestures: zoom and the ability to rotate the map.

    Most modern Android backgrounds starting with Droid should support most, if not all, of the features of the new version, but it all depends on the particular handset (3D render and multi-touch). Interestingly, Nexus One supports vector display of cards, but there will be no possibility to rotate them due to multi-touch restrictions. Below is a list of devices that are 100% compatible with 5.0 chips. The update should appear within a few days.

    * Galaxy S
    * Droid
    * Droid X
    * Droid 2
    * Droid Incredible
    * Evo
    * Nexus S
    * G2 Hodgepodge
