New York selects Microsoft cloud services for 100,000 employees

    The city of New York concludes a contract with Microsoft for a period of 5 years for the use of cloud office technologies for 100,000 employees of municipal institutions. This was announced today, October 20. The contract was announced by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at a special event.

    New York will use the Office 365 suite that was introduced yesterday for its jobs . Some employees will receive basic capabilities (the so-called deskless) - work with mail, others will be able to work with a full range of services. In total, employees will be divided into three categories, according to the number of services used.

    Saving New York will be about $ 50 million in five years. The city plans to save on software (cloud versions will be used) and storage of some data that will be hosted in the Microsoft cloud.
