Another way to find out where a customer came from who left an order in an online store by phone

In the recent past, I already discussed with the habrosociety, the task of determining the source from which the visitor came, who called us and left the order. In response, a good answer appeared in the form of a topic with a sequel . The method is good for determining the sources of all calls and obtaining statistics on their processing. But I was haunted by the fact of the need to purchase several city numbers. There are a lot of places where one way or another the site is advertised and you can’t buy one for each number.

As a result, I found a way how to determine the source of a telephone order without additional material costs.

We placed a block on the site on the left side of the header, in which we wrote the following: “Your client code: 12345”. The numbers are naturally different for everyone and depend on where the client came from. Now, when placing an order by phone, the manager asks the client this code. And in the end, we know exactly why we received this order.

If the client wrote down the phone and called later or simply closed the site already, then the manager is interested in where he came from to our site. And place an order with a code corresponding to the client’s response. It is clear that the error of this method lies here (simply because the client can say that he came from Yandex, but in fact he came from Yandex.Market, and not from the search or context, or to say nothing at all), but there are not many error is acceptable.

The site admin panel has statistics on orders and their sources, including dirty profit received from each source. That makes it easy to determine the effectiveness of the placement.

The method may not be perfect, but there is no limit to perfection. Maybe you will write in the comments something that will turn the world in this area.

PS this comment confirmed my last phrase. The world did not turn upside down, but it definitely changed my point of view on this issue.
