Wanhao Duplicator I3 Mini - affordable 3D printing
Hello. Just the other day, a new product from Wanhao, the Duplicator I3 mini, came to us . Testing printing is in full swing, but for now we will tell you about the technical features of this machine.
The Chinese company Wanhao is today the world leader in the production of desktop 3D printers using FDM technology. Wanhao's goal is to create budget 3D printers that are accessible even to students. Indeed, only 5 years ago, the founders of the company themselves were students passionate about 3D printing, and they perfectly understand the problem of finding a printer for little money.
I3 miniIt is not a mini-analogue of the good old I3, as many would have thought. The printer has different kinematics, an unheated platform, a different construction area, and a heating temperature. Although the characteristics of print accuracy prescribed in the instructions are generally the same. But it will be better to find out empirically.
The cost of I3 mini is half as much compared to the I3 model and amounts to 12 500 rubles. This is the cheapest Wanhao 3D printer.
The printer is compact, with an open platform and a tiny display. Weight is only 7 kg. The design of the I3 mini is very simple and concise, like all Wanhao printers.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
In the instructions for the printer, the declared print area is 120 × 135 × 100 mm. But if you measure the print area by the extreme positions of the extruder, you get about 125 x 150 x 100mm.
The maximum temperature of the extruder is 240 degrees. But short-term heating up to 260 is possible.
COMPLETE
MECHANICS The
mechanics of the printer are similar to Winbo Super Helper SH105 , which we talked about earlier . But there are still some differences.
On the X axis, 2 shafts are used along which the carriage with the extruder is driven on linear bearings. The trapezoidal screw and guide shafts are on the Z axis.
Instead of the usual “direct” feed for Wanhao (motor on an extruder) there is a “bowden” with a motor on the body. This will not allow printing with soft plastics and rubber, but significantly reduces the weight of the extruder.
Although the printer is not intended for printing with any other plastics other than PLA.
The extruder has one fan for blowing the model and radiator. This may not be enough when printing small models.
The unheated table is calibrated at 4 points.
The printer is controlled using the “twist” button with a small display on which all the necessary information is displayed.
Internal electronics in the style of Wanhao. Their board (presumably an analogue of Mega 2560) and a simple power supply. This is all cooled by a small fan.
Software
As a slicer, a slightly redesigned CURA is traditionally used.
CURA immediately added a ready-made profile for I3 mini. If the Printers do not have a profile for I3 mini, go to the menu item "Printer" - "Add New Printer Wizard" and select I3 mini. After that, the profile will appear in the settings.
Ready profiles are a huge plus for a novice user.
PRINTING
We have just started testing the Wanhao I3 mini and cannot yet share our print results. Below are photos printed on I3 mini models from users of this printer.

too =) Of course, judging the print quality is difficult to judge by the quality of the printed models without knowing the plastic used, the print settings. But for unprocessed models, the result is quite satisfactory.
Wanhao Duplicator I3 mini, first of all, will be interesting for beginner 3D makers. The printer comes fully assembled from the factory, it is quite simple to master the work on it, there is a one-year warranty (unlike models for assembly). And the price for a ready-to-use printer is one of the cheapest in the 3D market.
Like all 3D printers, without a heated platform and printing PLA, I3 mini can be recommended for children and adolescents. Of course, the child should take his first steps in 3D printing in the presence of adults.
