Anomaly on the Volgograd bridge

An unusual amplitude of oscillations, reaching the order of a meter, is observed on the Volgograd bridge.
The President has already ordered that this be sorted out, and also ordered that the bridge be closed until the reasons for such behavior of the structure are discovered.

The length of the bridge is about 7 kilometers and its construction cost about one billion dollars.

The phenomenon is extremely ambiguous and at the moment there is a check for the correct design, construction and operation of the bridge in Volgograd. Experts cannot yet name a specific reason, but they believe that the aerodynamics of the bridge are most likely the reason.

Below you can see how the phenomenon looks. It is amazing how flexible the metal and reinforced concrete structure seems. Are there physicists among readers who can at least roughly explain this phenomenon?

Thanks to users, you can make an interesting addition to the story - the largest destruction of the mast through Tacoma Bay in 1940.

“The crash occurred in 1940 after four months of operation. The main cause of the accident is excessive dynamic torsional vibrations caused by wind. To study the accident of this bridge, a successful factor was the fact that the exact behavior of the bridge from the beginning of the accident to the time of the crash was able to be studied in detail using filming, which recorded the oscillations and the nature of the destruction.
The suspension bridge (cable-stayed) is three-span. The total length is 1662 m, the average span is 854 m, two lateral spans - 335 m each, coastal - 137 m, bridge width 11.9 m. The bridge is suspended on two steel ropes 0 438 mm each. Sag of 70.66 m. Steel pylons on concrete bulls. The bridge had a very small height of the stiffener beam - 2.44 m, which was 1/100 of the span, and therefore was subject to strong fluctuations.

The crash occurred in 1940 after 4 months of operation as a result of dynamic vibrations (aerodynamic) caused by the wind. The cliff of the suspension of the central span led to sagging side spans and the inclination of the pylons. Strong vertical and torsional vibrations of the bridge were the result of excessive design flexibility and the relatively low ability of the bridge to absorb dynamic forces ... "
