Browser test in V8 Benchmark Suite
It is always interesting to test various software and compare it with each other according to one or another criteria. The other day I decided to test browsers based on the V8 Benchmark Suite test (v8.googlecode.com). This is one of the many test sites, of which there are a huge number of networks, and as you can see from the service address, it is clearly understood by whom and by what. As tests, a number of specific tests are used, on the basis of which a certain total amount of points characterizing the operation of the browser is calculated.
The tests involved five browsers installed on my laptop (by the way, very, very weak), namely IE8 (Version: 8.0.7600.16385), Firefox 3.6.3, Opera 10.10 (Build 1893), Safari 4.0.4 (531.21. 10) and Chrome 4.0.249.89 (38071). As a result, the following results were obtained after the tests, by the way it is worth noting that multiple tests led to different results, but the difference in numbers was not large. The test page itself is here .
The eternal donkey IE8 showed the worst result, gaining 38.4 points.
The Firefox 3.6 browser, which I have been using lately lately because of all kinds of extensions and toolbars, showed 205 points. Moreover, disabling plug-ins and toolbars did not give a noticeable increase in the overall score.
Opera 10, which I used to use before Firefox for many years, showed 113 points, although visually it seems to me that it still works faster than Firefox, but unfortunately it doesn’t support a lot of things, for example, the same drug and drop, which is necessary for work with some CMS and so on, and therefore in due time I had to look for a replacement for it.
Surprised by Safari 4, which showed 744 balls. Again, the purely visual perception of this browser is personally not the best for me. So, just by sight, Safari loads pages much longer than Firefox or Opera.
The winner in the end was the Google Chrome 4 browser, which showed sky-high 1635 points.
Of course, there are big suspicions that Google Chrome 4 is simply well optimized for googlecode.com's V8 Benchmark Suite, but the browser is visually really fast enough. It remains only to wait when it will support the toolbars (?) And will overgrow with many necessary extensions that are slowly appearing and appearing.
