Computer Hardware Weekly News Digest (Issue 5) - Nvidia Fermi
OCClub.ru team presents a weekly digest of news from the world of computer hardware. We will introduce the most interesting events from the iron world for the week to the readers. Now you do not have to look for interesting news yourself, we will do it for you.

In this issue:
- Nvidia GTX480 GTX470 Tests
- Nvidia Fermi Product Gallery
On March 27, 2010, Nvidia introduced to the public a new line of graphics cards - Fermi. Two top-end models are officially presented - GTX470 and GTX480. First, let's look at the technical specifications in comparison with the previous top-rated Nvidia products.

And more details about the updates:

And here is the novelty GTX480:

Test results of the resource Guru3D

updates to confidently manage to bypass single-chip Radeon HD5870 competitor in the popular FarCry2 game, but the dual-GPU HD5970 lacks quite a bit.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 DX11

In Battlefield Bad Company 2, the situation is not so rosy for Nvidia fans, the advantage of the GTX480 over the HD5870 is only 2 frames.
Tom Clancy's HAWX

In the benchmark of the popular Tom Clancy's HAWX game, the advantage of Nvidia again becomes noticeable. The GTX480 is steadily stepping forward over the HD5870, and there is too much left behind the HD5970.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

In a favorite shooter Call of Duty, the GTX480 does just incredible, bypassing even the Radeon HD5970.
Resident Evil 5 (DirectX 10)

Nvidia products also look a bit more confident than Radeon. But the leadership of HD5970 still remains unshakable.
Analyzing the results of tests and numerous reviews of Nvidia Fermi, I came to the following conclusions:
- GTX480 is about 5-15% faster than Radeon HD5870
- GTX480 is about 5-15% slower than Radeon HD5970
- GTX480 in some 3D applications remains on par with the Radeon HD5870, and even loses a little. But the number of such applications is approximately 20%.
- The GTX470 looks like a worthy competitor to the HD5850
- the GTX470 confidently outperforms the current Nvidia single-chip flagship, the GTX285.
Honestly, I expected a bit more from Nvidia Fermi products. I really wanted to see Fermi's confident advantage over Radeon, unfortunately, this did not happen. Nevertheless, I am pleased to see that after several failed generations ATI were able to equal performance. I really hope that this will help to adjust prices in the market, because I think that many have noticed a trend that Nvidia products have become too expensive.
