Mimo 720S usb brief overview

MIMO Monitors recently introduced a new monitor from the “mini USB monitors” series. The model is called the MIMO 720-S “Touchscreen Slider”. Nice design, low weight, the presence of a touchscreen function and power only from the USB port are a good set of parameters that you should pay attention to. The Mimo mini monitor helps expand the desktop capabilities of compact laptops, and its small size and weight make it easy to fit in a laptop bag.

First of all, pay attention to the design of the device. Firstly, Mimo has an interesting and convenient feature of folding into the form of a folder, while taking up a minimal amount of space. Secondly, the monitor can display a picture, both in horizontal and vertical position. Thirdly, the weight of the device is about 400 g, which allows you to easily throw in a laptop bag and forget that it is there.

Mimo display rotation is 90 degrees, while switching the picture must be done using the installed driver, automatic orientation change is not provided.

The body of the USB monitor is made of high-quality matte plastic. Three mechanical buttons are provided on the case: power, increase brightness, decrease brightness.

Brightness is adjustable over a wide range and reaches 300 cd / m2. On the rear side is a USB connector, hidden under a rubber flap with the company logo. The supplied USB cable has two connectors for connecting to a computer, as in some external HDDs. In practice, using one is enough. The length of the USB cable is 140 cm, which is enough to connect to a laptop or home PC.

    Software
A few words about software and drivers. When connecting the Mimo 720S, two drivers are required: for the monitor and for the touchscreen function. No installation problems arose. After installation, three icons will appear in the tray: DisplayLink (helps to adjust the image rotation of monitors and the ability to expand or duplicate the main monitor) and two icons for setting and working the touchscreen function (one for setting and calibration, the second for switching between mouse buttons when you click with your finger).

After delving into the settings in more detail, you can configure many additional touchscreen functions, right up to controlling the mouse cursor on the main monitor! In the latter case, I was not able to configure the same level of convenience as when using the touchpad on a laptop. Often there is a selection of the screen area, instead of simply moving the mouse. More accurate calibration may be required.

MAC users will have to download an additional $ 30 paid driver to use the touchscreen feature.

    Convenience and image quality
The image quality is good, but it cannot boast of something outstanding. At the same time, I really liked the brightness adjustment range. When direct sunlight hits the monitor, high brightness (8 levels) allows you to comfortably use the monitor. The text is clear and well read. No glare, partly because the screen is not glossy. I consider this a plus. If necessary, it is possible to connect several monitors to one computer, while the requirements for the computer's hardware are increased from 1.2GHz and 512MB RAM for one display, to 1.6GHz dual-core and 1GB RAM for 6. The USB monitor boasts good viewing angles , explicit color inversion at extreme angles is not observed.

    conclusions
The monitor is perfect as an additional extension of the laptop screen. On it you can place the icq client, skype, Photoshop palettes and tools, twitter clients and other utilities. You can use both Outlook and browsers, but with less convenience, since most pages on the Internet are designed for a resolution of more than 800 pixels.

A well-thought-out design, low weight and power from only one USB cable are a good set of qualities for use with a laptop with a small screen size. If desired, the Mimo 720S can be used as a digital frame.
