The new and old headquarters of the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco
You have already seen the offices of various commercial companies. Do you want to see where the employees of a nonprofit organization serving one of the 10 most visited world sites work? In my opinion this is insanely interesting.
By the way, in October a Russian employee appeared - a photo in the kit.
The Wikimedia Foundation’s office moved from St. Petersburg (Florida) to San Francisco at Stallman Stillman Street 39 (see OpenStreetMap , on other maps ) between January 24 and 29, 2008, but after 1.5 years due to a growing number of employees they again moved and October 19-20, 2009 alreadyoccupied the entire third floor of the building at 149 New Montgomery Street (look at OpenStreetMap , on other maps ).
The office was located in St. Petersburg simply because Jimmy Wales lived and still lives there . Let me remind you that the servers of the Wikimedia Foundation are still located in the neighboring town of Thampa (aaaa! Hurricanes !!!), and the organization itself is still registered under the law of the state of Florida.

Logos of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation. In the window - the same PacBell Building tower. The view from the window to the PacBell Building tower . Turn left and ... ... we go past the logo, which turned out to be collapsible. Already familiar logo and office manager Daniel Phelps. In the center, facing the photographer, is MediaWiki developer Tim Starling . Since he doubled the parser every year on October 31, Wikipedians around the world celebrate Tim Starling Day . Starling - husband

Angela Beasley , co-founder of the commercial company Wikia . The one standing is Matt Halprin , a member of the Board of Attorneys, the highest governing body of the Wikimedia Foundation . In the background is a cardboard Vibber logo, which will be discussed below. Esperantist Brion Vibber did everything he could, but in September 2009 resigned as Chief Technical Officer . Now the cardboard “chef” Brion Wieber serves each person individually. On June 1 of each year, Wikipedians all over the world make a toast in honor of Brion Wieber and greet each other in Esperanto . Together with Vibber

Wiki inventor (1994-1995) Ward Cunningham . The first wiki engine he named in honor of the bus «Wiki Wiki Shuttle» Hawaii . Again cardboard Vibber. Since October 2009 , a person who speaks Russian has been working for the organization: Anya Shyrokova, development and support of the collection of donations (Stewardship Associate) . She is on the left. Next to her is CEO Sue Gardner. Nape of Jimbo.

There is some strange story connected with this office for carefully hiding his whereabouts and clearing his photos from Wikipedia. According to unverified information, the Wikimedia Foundation employees were afraid of suicide bombings from one of Wikipedia’s opposing sites.
This office can also be seen in this video ( download , Russian version in Theora ):
Only pictures after moving are shown below. Photos before buying and moving can be viewed on Wikimedia Commons . Vibber. Still working and not cardboard. The logo hung in the office on Stillman Street. Please note that in the center there is a clock that shows Wikipedia’s Coordinated Universal Time. Unlike GMT, it never translates into summer time. Executive Director Sue on the table.
