(Part 1) Turn your PSP into a remote control and gamepad for Windows

Are you a happy owner of a Sony PSP console? I will tell you how to get a remote control for your computer in just a few minutes without extra costs. And after spending a little more time, you can get a great gamepad.

There are two ways to implement this venture: cheap and relatively inexpensive.

In the first case , the console will work through a mini-usb cable. Obviously, you don’t have to rely on “switch music from the sofa” ( although, of course, you can forward the extension cord =) ). But it turns out quite a comfortable gamepad.
For the second case, we additionally need a Wi-Fi router ( fortunately, every third one has it ). Thus, your remote control will become full, and the gamepad - even more convenient.
Note: it doesn’t matter if there is WiFi on the computer itself. You can connect to the router with an ordinary twisted pair cable. The main thing is that the computer is on the same network as the PSP.

I use PSP Slim & lite, a laptop with Windows 7 on board and a D-Link DI-524 router.

Step 1: Installing Everything You Need

    We will need :
    • Playstation Portable console with custom firmware (for example, 5.03 Gen-C).
    • Windows 7 / Vista
    • Mini-USB cable for connecting the console.
    • Wi-Fi router (for the second method)
    • The program « PSPdisp »

    Actions :
    1. We connect the PSP using a mini-usb cable.
    2. Launch the PSPdisp installer.
    3. Installation is performed with the default settings.
    4. We confirm the installation of unsigned drivers.
    5. During installation, the program will detect the console and request permission to copy the utility to the memory card. If this does not happen, specify the path to the folder X: / PSP / GAME manually.

    6. Finish the installation of PSPdisp.

    Step 2: Setup

    1. Disconnect the PSP from the computer.
    2. Turn on the PSP.
    3. Go to the "Games - Memory Stick", run PSPdisp (should be the first on the list).
    4. The program should give this:
      image
    5. Click the triangle. Enter the internal IP address of your computer (for example, 192.168.0.3).
    6. Choose a connection method. If you selected USB, insert the cable back into the PSP and the computer. If WiFi, a standard dialog for connecting the console to a WiFi point will appear.

    For WiFi connection:

    1. In the Windows system tray, we find the PSPDisp icon, right-click. Select "Options - Use wireless LAN" from the menu.
    2. In the menu, select "Enabled". The program will report the internal ip-address of the computer and ask to connect via it.

Step 3: The final step. Check

    • Right-click on PSPdisp in the tray. Select "Control - Mouse emulation".

    • Check the performance of our frauds: move the analogue. The cursor should move. A part of the image near the cursor should be displayed on the PSP screen. The "cross" emulates the right-click, the "square" - the left.

In principle, any person who knows at least a little English will be able to further configure the program. As a last resort, there is Help.

At this stage, the first part of the topic ends. In the next part I will describe the detailed configuration of PSPDisp, programming buttons for specific actions. As an example, I will describe the configuration for Windows Media Center and Aimp. I will also show how to make a full-fledged gamepad out of PSP (using the example of the game "Need for speed: Underground 2").
